Hi can anyone recommend any easy free software for capturing stills from films. I want to get some nice shots of 50s and 60s cars extracted from some of the great films i have been watching, Thanks, Johnny.

Yep, I use VLC, too. Dead easy to get the hang of.

VirtualDub does the job with AVIs. Mpegs too if you use V1.5.10. I don't use VLC as i couldn't find a way to stop it associating itself with all my media files, but maybe i missed something.

It's part of the installation. But you can always correct it or change the association back to other applications after installing if you missed it

I use BSPlayer Pro myself, a doddle to use just press "P" when viewing a clip to takes stills.

That's what i thought, but i remember when i tried, after installation, i couldn't seem to find a way to change these options. In the end i gave up and uninstalled the app:-(

Actually, i have 4/5 different media players installed anyway, tho' i believe VLC offers some options that the others don't.

What's wrong with using apple-shift-3? Or apple-shift-4 to define the area of capture. Built-in to OSX and free.
