I have a Daewoo combi, but would not recommend because of the high noise level and 'soft' picture on VHS record/playback.........the price for this model at amazon.co.uk will probably be much cheaper .......

    TESTCARD CHRIS

name='Steve Crook']I see that Radio Times is offering a Daewoo DRVT43 VCR/DVD player/recorder which can play videos or DVDs, record to either off air or record from one to the other in either direction. All for £219.95 (in. P+P)

Depending on what you want, the cheap route does offer Daewoo's and Funai's

(actually the Funai is only £179.99 in Argos)

If you really want an all in one then i would suggest paying a little more and going for a Sony or maybe a Panasonic (£279.99 Argos)

But i would always go for seperate units with all electronic equipment, as these all in one things are harder to repair and a total failure of one unit then means that the other is no good either......all in all my opinion is....All in one's are false economy.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris.

I apologise if this seems a bit thick, but is there such a device/lead/wire that can link a VCR to a pc/laptop?

If your PC/laptop has a video capture card, it willl probably have either an s-video or video (yellow) IN socket. So either of these two types of lead will do for the video.

If your VCR doesn't have a video or s-video OUT socket, you can get a cheap adapter eg

    http://www.intellectsystems.co.uk/ep...l&Locale=en_GB

which will convert the scart out socket. This will also provide (if needed) the red and white audio sockets that you will connect to your soundcard using a phono to mini jack lead.

I'm sure there are other possible ways to connect a VCR to a PC but this is the method i have used successfully.

Mine's a Toshiba that also records on tape or DVD, but has a Hard Drive too...so you can record there first, edit down and then commit to disc ready titled, or use as a buffer between VHS and Disc....edit, split scenes into chapters, whatever. Multi region, £180 delivered online....

BTW Lerica - this is a bit O/T - i think you'll get a better response if you start a new thread.

I have a Toshiba and it is brilliant.

Recording to the the hard drive, it is easy to edit, delete adverts, etc and then copy to DVD.

No fiddling with extra leads, machines etc - well worth the extra cash if you are likely to use it regularly.

Many thanks! Yes, sorry about that, you're probably right. I'll give your ideas a try out first though. Thanks again.
