I have the Sony RDR-HXD 1065. The "twin tuners" mentioned in several posts refers to (on my machine) analogue and digital tuning.

Hookups: Assuming you have the aerial lead plugged into the recorder, and the "jumper" cable running from the recorder "aerial out" socket to the TV "aerial in" socket, it is possible to watch a channel on the TV and record another one on the PVR. It's the same as we did years ago when the world revolved around analogue TV and VCRs.

I have found that the Sony EPG is brilliant on both of my TV and DVD recorder. My TV is a Sony KD-28 DX51U. When I had the anologue recorder (Sony RDR-HX 900), Digital channels could be recorded using the Smartlink connection. However, you could only watch a separate channel on the TV on analogue reception if a digital channel was being recorded via Smartlink, hence the reason for buying another DVD recorder. The RDR-HX 900 has been relegated to bedroom use but is fine for playing or editing DVDs that were recorded on the RDR-HXD 1065 in the living room.

Just thought I'd update this thread: in the end I ordered Top Up TV Anytime, with which you get a "free" 160Gb PVR. Well, the "reconditioned" Thomson PVR I was sent is the flakiest thing on four rubber feet. Very flimsy and forever freezing up or resetting itself. As for the Top Up TV deal, I thought I was getting a bunch of extra channels, but in fact I get selected programmes from said channels (not selected by me, I should add), not access to the channels themselves. Perhaps I was being thick, but this wasn't made obvious in TUTV's literature/website.

So, all in all I wouldn't recommend TUTV to others and I'll be cancelling my subscription as soon as I can and investing in a decent PVR/DVD recorder. Bah!
