Whatever you decide on, make sure it uses DVD+ and DVD- discs, otherwise you'll buy some DVD's that won't be recognised by the DVD recorder.

Haven't got one personally but I know someone who has and reckons it's very good:
SONY RDRHX750-BLK at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.
Or have a look through the AV forums here:

Hi Alfie!! Even I am new to this forum..I think you should go for Sony RDRHXD870B DVD Recorder. Its really nice. I recently bought it and I am more than happy with its performance. Its just that you need to check whether it is fulfilling your requirement otherwise its awesome..
I would recommend going for a dual hard drive - DVD recorder. This will allow you to record onto the hard drive first, then quickly dub the results onto a DVD - so if you are unlucky enough to record onto a faulty DVD disc you can just chuck the disc away and do it again.
If you on holiday, it also means you'll have around 80 hours of hard disc space to record things on while you're away.

I nearly bought one but found out that it would not do an A-B edit on a DVD+ disc. This would be a pain if you record and want to remove adverts. My old HX 900 and the HXD 1065 will do an A-B edit on a DVD+ disc and the HXD 1065 will create a playlist on the HDD.
It would appear that the Sony DVD recorders in the range 870, 970, 1070, etc. are all lacking in this respect. Watch out for these missing items. It's better to have 'em and not need 'em rather than need 'em and not have 'em!
