External Hard Drive problem

I'm hoping someone may be able to give me some advice on the following :



I've just puchased from Amazon a Freecom External Double Layer DVD +/- recorder and setting it up was easy- however whenever I input a blank DVD -RW disc into it to copy I get a message saying the disc must be fully erased this then takes 50+ minutes ! The discs are brand new as I bought them at Comet on the way home.



Any help will be really appreciated ( there is a helpline phone number but of course they only work normal office hours )

Have you tried to format the disc?
