    G'day All,

I've been looking for a TV series and have reached despair. It seems its only available on Region 1 or 2 format. My DVD player is Region 4 and I can't alter it. It seems it needs several bits of equipment other than the remote and also a computer science degree! I could just buy a region 2 and try to copy it but aren't most discs "locked"? Sorry to sound so technically feeble, folks.

Basically, I'd like simple instructions on how to copy/burn a region 2 . Can anybody help an ex-pat?

    Hi,

If it is not possible to convert your machine, how about running a copy of the R 1 or 2 onto a videotape, then record the tape copy onto your R4 machine.

Quality will suffer here, but it could be "cleaned up" and would then give you an R4 copy.

The cheaper option these days may well be just to buy a multi or R1 / 2 player and use it to watch that disc.

I must be honest DVD is not really my thing, but see no reason that this will not work. Only that you may have to use an old VCR to miss the Blocking signals on your disc.

Hope this is of some help,

    Chris.

    Hi,

go to SlySoft Products | Copy Movie DVDs with AnyDVD and CloneDVD and download a copy of Any DVD, it's a free trial, 21 days I think, and if you have a burning software such as nero, you can copy your DVD. If you have got nero, an up to date copy of nero 8 would be helpful, but I have just nero 6 and it works just fine.

Just a slight suggestion, go through the Home Entertainment Equipment forum and you can pick up lots of helpful information from other users, I certainly have learnt buckets from the members and have found lots of free downloads to brighten up my days and help me sought out little problems.

    Good luck and happy hunting.

    Hi again,

found something else that might help you, go to The World Famous Chipped Remote - Panasonic - Sony - Pioneer - £22.00 including shipping. and you maybe able to order a remote that will unlock any dvd player. Also go to page 11 of Home Entertainment Equipment and you will see lots of helpful advice from other members.

Alternative to Lordted using free s/w: copy the dvd to your PC hard drive using dvd decrypter if necessary and then burn it to a dvd via dvd shrink, using the option to make it region free. You can also remove other annoyances like prohibited user operations.

With the price of dvd players these days, might it be worth considering a new multiregion model and sticking the old one on ebay? :-)

a Philips 5140 from Walmart for $25 and you can change the region code to anything you want and play anything ou want. Worked so slick I went back and bought two more. I love buying region 2 dvds and it was the only way to go, especially after I got tired of changing region codes on the computer.

Zone-free players are cheaps as chips at the moment. You can pick one up from $AU45. Head to Harvey Norman or Dick Smith's.

A big thank you to all who replied. I am terribly sorry about the delay in my thanks, I hadn't realised that this had been moved to here...sure I was putting it on another thread. Forgive my slackness. I shall contact all those who made the offer soon. Thanks again.
