    Hello everyone,

I would like to save clips from youtube on to a mp3 video player but am not sure what kind of player to buy. Is it possible and easy to do this? I believe some of the latest machines have software that can download and store video on these types of machines.

    Cheers,

Archos, for one, make a player that will play youtube files, but I am guessing that an mp4 player will do the same if you convert the youtube file (flv) to mp4 using free conversion software.

Fortunately, though larger than flv, mp4 files are relatively small.

I personally use Any Video Converter.

Further to my earlier email, does anyone use MP3/MP4 VIDEO playersto download and store YOUTUBE clips etc ? And is it easy and straightforward to do ?

There has been an on-going "legal" battle between youtube and companies offering software to save youtube clips for viewing other than on-line.

I use the website www.keepvid.com to paste download shortcuts from youtube.

They can then be saved as flv files or sometimes mp4.

I can see youtube going the way of Napster. It is stuffed full of copyright material.

If you download the clips as flvs, they take up little space and can easily be converted to other formats including DVD, mpeg.1, mpeg.2, mp4, avi, wmv, wav, mp3 etc.

I just bought a fancy MP3 player that does videos and it comes with the software to convert to the right format. It's a very slow procedure though

I download stuff using Realplayer and then use a free program called FormatFactory to convert them to MP4 files. I can then play them on my mobile phone and Sony Walkman.

For the Mac, I recommend the free MacTubes.

I used to use Tubesock but it went bust. (Have you noticed that whenever you decide to do the decent thing and pay for a piece of shareware, it goes bust? Can't tell you how many times it's happened to me.)
