Ebay ..... I bought a really good one earlier this year for a tenner + postage. You can still get them in shops or via online retailers .... if you are willing to hunt around you can get some real bargains.

A friend has purchased, from Richer Sounds, a VHS/DVD combi for £274.90p

    (including £24.95p 5-year Supercare).

Reason for purchase, at that price, is preference for combi with multi-region DVD.

The flexibility is not apparent from Panasonic manual:

"Unit will play DVDs marked with labels containing "2" or "ALL".

As mentioned in another post, Richer Sounds "frees up" the unit to play

DVDs marked "Region 1" (etc) - then adds a "multi-region" sticker to the original packaging.

Other retailers give the impression there is no combi with this capacity.

I just went to Richer Sounds and asked for a NSTC-compliant vcr. Think it was about £30. I still occasionally buy videos from US sites which I then immediately copy to dvd. Given that you can get a dvd-recorder for £100 or so, this seems a much cheaper option since my dvd-r has no problem converting NTSC tapes (if I remember to change the settings).

The combined DVD/VHS recorders are still freely and expensively available. If you are copying that combo should be the ideal.

That sounds like a very good deal! The only other suggeation might be your local freecycle site. They do come up quite often but i imagine you'd have to be quick.

i went into currys but they dont hold them in stock in that store sales assistant said theyre probably only an online offer . got one at asda ! it was 30 quid ,but probably only a tenner or so more expensive than currys if you have to add postage on to their offer

A good place to look for a very good spec high end model is either GUMTREE or LOOT.There are some real gems out there for good value.

Argos is another good place to try for a VHS/DVD Combi, I paid approximately £69 for a Samsung Combi earlier this year and I've no complaints whatsoever, use a good quality tape and it's hard to tell if it's been recorded or live

I have only ever bought something from Currys on-line once - and that was more than enough!

I have been shopping on-line for over 10 years and I have NEVER had such a bad experience as I had with them! I would never buy from them ever again (not even in the High Street).

In all probability, you had a lucky escape!
