I am not interfering or anything - but I have some thoughts on the internet.

It's shit - it is. But sometimes - it can be good. But don't take it too seriously or it will mess with your head.

And it takes you away from the real things.

I sit in here most nights (admittedly I am hampered by practical things..kids..living in the middle of nowhere) recovering from death and I last had a relationship over a year ago with a man who was mad and met another who was mad (not here) but we didn't meet - and I think it was me just going a bit mad but I was having an off thing with a thing.

Anyway...yesterday I was mistaken for my sons girlfriend - by someone without glasses and about my age - and tonight two men crossed the street to chat me up and yet here I am - hiding like an idiot.

Get out all of you or stay in and stop worrying so much. Most people on internet forums hate me and I get a certain amount of pleasure out of that - try it! It ain't so bad. You don't have to remember birthdays or to be polite and yet in real life I have more potential friends than I know what to do with - because I would rather sit here than go out trawling for insurance salesmen or shopping for bras - and I'm not going to apologise for that.

    But - just be chilled.

Like many things, it can be many things depending on what you do with it.

I've used it to meet and keep in contact with some wonderful people.

It also makes my job a lot easier

    I don't believe that MB.......

You can't have chatted to most people yet surely?....

The internet is useful as a tool, but can't be relied on 100%....which is the total opposite of me.....I'm not useful....

You are - you give excellent gardening tips and are a friendly seamonster.

The above top is 'do not post whilst drunk' - a lesson I have not learnt.

But it has some reason in it, I suppose.

I keep getting emails from 'Friends Reuinted' to my decoy account in a slightly wrong name asking me if I want to meet the other people in my ‘class’.

They have now written this morning and suggested I might like to join one of their groups – these are the groups they have selected for me:

    30 Somethings

    Cat Lovers

    Loose Women

    Book lovers Group

    Film & Cinema

    Paris

    Eastenders

    German Shepherds

    Family Trees

    Favourite Holiday Destinations

What are they trying to say? And how do they know about the German shepherds?!!

a good thing about the internet is that it enables me to participate in an interesting and informative forum such as this one without having to get dressed!

a bad thing about the internet is that it also enables me to participate in the inane, false world of 'facebook' where people you didn't like in school try to 'collect' you to add to their tally of 644 friends, ask you to join silly groups such as 'the drunken text message appreciation group'and take part in the 'what muppet are you?' quiz!

i only joined out of curiosity and now find myself logging in from time to time just to see how idiotic some people are-which makes me just as bad!

I agree about the 'friend count' users, but the movie quizzes against friends are ace (tho I keep getting sent Corrie/Eastenders ones).

I also rule on Farm Town.

what on earth is 'farm town'?? the quizzes i've been sent are ridiculously easy therefore pointless!

i'd liken a conversation on 'facebook' to someone talking to me whilst making a cup of tea in the kitchen whilst i'm trying to watch something on TV in the living room!

ha ha! either there's a farm town version of 'foot and mouth' or my internet connection is very slow today as it took ages to load up!

two of my mates in work had a big row over a similar game to this but involving building up a village and defending it from invaders!

To me the Internet is pure Entertainment, even used as a business tool, Its worse than being hooked on watching TV . The advertisers run it. I have yet to get any job offer on a career web-site. And forget about the dating sites, They are pie throwing contests.

There is good and bad in the internet. But since being on the internet I have never met so many people who share my interests. Before the internet I felt pretty odd in the world especially in my pagan interests.

Now, I feel normal and sane compared to some

I love the internet. There are quite a few sites that I visit regularly (mainly film/tv/dvd/cd/book related) and I avoid anything that I might find offensive or disturbing. This is the only forum I belong to .... having looked at and experienced others, I count myself lucky to have found this one, which is visited by (mostly) sensible, intelligent people who know their stuff and like a laugh too. Some of the other forums out there are just insane free-for-alls.

I can vouch for that. There were a couple of forums which I use to frequent where the policy was to deliberately cause offence to everyone else. Initially it was a bit of high-octaned excitement, but it developed into something really nasty with death threats abound. When this started to occur I left.

Yeah those lawn bowling forums can get very competitive and a bit nasty
