What are you starting off with? Where is the film and what format is it in?

Generally, VLC is very good for most things, and it's free. There are better programmes but you must buy them

It is a film that has been recorded onto a DVD-R disc. I have programmes like DVD Shrink, but not really sure how to use this properley and wether I can edit footage on there. I'll have to give the VLC ago.

    Thank you.

Womble MPEG Video Wizard DVD will do what you want..

You can import a VOB file straight from DVD - Do all sorts of editing and then export the clip to a variety of video formats or burn a DVD.

I like Womble because it is quite easy to start doing what you want to try. There are other more sophisticated video editors but some can be quite daunting.

    WITH DVD SHRINK:

Put disk into your optical drive

    open dvdshrink

select open disk. After analysis, press reauthor

Drag the movie file from right to left panel

Select the blue 'two arrow' symbol

Use slider and nudge arrows to select start/end of clip

    Press ok

select where you wish to save the file and make sure 'create Video TS subfolder is checked. press ok Job done.

Now use your prefered prog to convert to AVI or similiar.

    This method is very quick because;

    1. You dont have to rip the disk to your harddrive

    2. Dvdshrink doesn't have to re-render the file (unless you choose to shrink it of course)

If you're willing to shell out, I've found Cinematize to be excellent for taking a clip off a DVD-R in one step and outputting it in a variety of formats. I use a Mac but I believe it's available for PCs too.

Thank you so much for this, I shall give it ago. I had a feeling I could maybe do it on dvd shrink but really wouldn't of known how to. Thanks again.
