    VLC Media Player

Would some kind person tell me how to designate where screencapture/snapshots "go"?

I'm used to PowerDVD where you can pre-select destination-size etc...........

I'm on Day 1 with Vista Premium and nothing seems to work properly -yet -not even the ability to make things bold in this message............aaaagggggggghhhhhh

Mine go automatically to 'My Pictures'....I didn't know if there is a way to divert them... but it's no problem to sort them out in My Pics and send them wherever ...

Yes but slowing it down to x13 is almost as good.

If VLC doesn't allow you to capture frame by frame (is that what you're saying?) then you could try virtualdub, which is what i use for screenshots. It's a free and easy to use video editor and it copies any frame to the clipboard, so you can paste it wherever you wish.

In case anyone hasn't seen it, there's a new version out:

VideoLAN - Open Source multimedia and streaming solutions for every OS!

Haven't tried it yet so I can't comment on what is different/better/worse.

Worth checking their forums before upgrading. Last time I installed their latest version, turned out there was a bug which meant it couldn't do screencaps

Yikes! Thanks CW. I shall have a gander. It may be a beta, though the website doesn't indicate so.

I had that problem too, but I just downloaded version 1.0.0, installed it (after uninstalling the previous version) and I can now do screencaps. However it has now changed the file associations so that all media files run in VLC by default. I can change this, but maybe I missed an option during the installation.

    Susanduic,

You should be able to play it at the slowest speed and then press the pause button on the player at the selected moment. Then use your screen grab. Works fine for me!

I did upgrade because it offered frame by frame advance............well I'm too thick or impatient to discover how. Fortunately, I found a good deal on PowerDVD (Deluxe!)- so sanity will soon be restored.................
