Hi, I can't get my VCR to record from the sky+ box - doesn't anyone have any answers why?

I keep on getting a flickery screen which loses colour and the picture.

I don't have Sky+ - just the original Sky Digibox receiver. I don't know whether the connections are any different, but I have a DVD recorder connected to mine and I'll write down how I have them connected:

1 scart lead connecting from "LINE 3 DECODER" (DVD) to "VCR SCART" (Receiver).

1 scart lead connecting from "LINE 1 TV" (DVD) to "RGB SCART" (TV).

    Receiver picture settings:

    Video output set to PAL

    Scart control set to ON

    DVD settings:

Line 1 output set to RGB

Line 3 input set to VIDEO/RGB

Line 3 output set to VIDEO

Also on your DVD/Video remote, there should be a button to switch between TV and Video. Have it set to Video so you can watch what you record.

On your TV remote, there'll be a button to change over to Scart viewing.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure if this will help you or not as each TV and Video combinations will have their own ways of marking up the connections.

How are the Sky boxes connected?

Are they using a scart lead or via a coax/TV lead?

Jay, to record from the sky+ then the dvd recorder has to sit on its output connection and then the output from the recorder goes to the TV.

If this is scart then select the recorder input ie AV source so you can 'see' the sky progs and then when you press playback from sky hard drive they will play thru the dvd recorder and you record as though its an off air signal.

If you don't have the main terrstrial aerial plugged into the dvd recorder then it won't find any channels.

    Hope this helps

You can record from any Sky Movies channel onto a VCR or DVD recorder with no problem. However you can't record anything from the Box Office channels as they are video-encrypted. As I understand you can record Box Office movies onto a Sky+ box and it is stored for a certain number of days, but mine isn't Sky+ so I couldn't be entirely sure.

This is one of the disadvantages since Sky changed to digital. On the old analogue system there was no problem recording a pay-per-view film. However, around 1999/2000 there was a digital broadcaster called 'U-direct' and all their films were on a pay-per-view basis; these weren't video-encrypted unlike Sky. They weren't around for very long however, as they were no longer on the Sky platform after a couple of years.
