    My uncle has a mid 40's TV bought just after the war by my late grandfather. Hasn't been switched on since 405 trasmission was stopped. I very much doubt it would still work now. I've had a peek at its innards and they don't look healthy!

    I remember about 20 years ago that an American woman had a Hoover that was as old as the hilss, a really early model. She had used it every day since it was bought and it still worked perfectly.



    The story continued that Hoover bought it off her for thousands with the intention of giving it to their technical department to analyse and determine why it had lasted so long. Apparently they didn't want to make a habit of it, not good business sense to have one machine to last a lifetime.
