And what I object to even more is the way that a lot of reviewers believed him

I just like to point out that the Emperor has no clothes

Steve.....1. I think you are not getting the HEAVY postmodern irony.
2. One should always allow for the possibility that the ambrosia of his talents are still
incarnate even though they seem to have flown straight over your head.
3. If you object to a reviewer having the opinion that he's "the best thing" then i
logically follows that you object to ANYBODY having that view. I can not percieve as
to what it must take to have an objection over another persons opinion. Why not
turn that objection into an enquiry ? You never know how many wonderful
educational and insightful things could be revealed.
4. If you have any photos of Ricky sans clothes PLEASE let me know.

Regards
Fred

I assume you mean that Ricky is not the only one who is crap.
Would you please confirm this and , for the sake of clarity, specifically name the person worthy of similar status.

Thank You
Fred

Why assume there's only one? There are lots of them, but most of them don't go around claiming to be the best thing since sliced bread and the saviour of British comedy

Well said,Steve. In fact is there any beginning to Ricky Gervais' talents?

He helped bring Martin Freeman to the public's attention ..... apart from that I can't think of anything.

I used to think he was very talented .... The Office is funny .... but nothing since has really hit the mark. Extras was OK, especially if you had worked at that level of 'the biz', but the main fun was to be had watching 'stars' make a tit of themselves. His stand up shows are not a patch on his 'contemporaries' (I watched Dylan Moran the other night - hilarious) and his radio shows are execrable.

Move over Ricky ..... and take your mate Jonathan Ross with you!

There are a lot more funnier comedians than Ricky SmugArse:Peter Kay,Jimmy Carr,Paul O'Grady,Jonathan Ross (sorry,Bats, but I do wish he would stop RG coming on his show) and Jethro.

That's OK .... apart from Ross I like all of those on your list with the exception of Jethro, who I have never seen. What sort of stuff does he do?

Oops,I forgot the greatest living stand up comedian, who warns his audience to bring supper to his shows, the eighty year old Ken Dodd.

Jethro is from Cornwall, who used to be on stage with his pipe (probably banned now) and a pint of beer. He would tell tales of his friends, such as Denzil,in his Cornish drawl. There is I believe a new DVD of his show.

I'll see if I can get hold of one from the local dvd rental shop .... they have hundreds of comedy discs in there.

The great Ken ... one of the three best stand-ups I have ever seen, the others being Bob Monkhouse and Frank Carson.

Jethro......????

(Ap)Paul(ing) Low'Gradey....??????

Please help me.An evening in their company is as inviting as setting fire to my hemmorhoids.
However,in keeping with my earlier comments, I'd appreciate hearing as to what I'm missing.

As to Ken Dodd, I totally agree. As a young fledgling musician I was fortunate to share a stage on numerous occasions with Doddy ( actually, each night felt like numerous occasions!). He was amazing.A true link to the days of music hall and vaudeville.

Bob Monkhouse was a master of stand up comedy,so was the late great Les Dawson.
Paul O Grady is a bit limited on his tea time show, but when unleashed he is hilarious.
