Watched it last night. It's a good film, but it suffers, through no fault of its own, from having become so popular, so over-praised. It's difficult to see the small and satisfying simple story, so carefully and neatly presented, through the OSCAR-WINNING-GREATEST-FILM-EVER glasses that come with it at this point.
I wouldn't begrudge it anyof its success, though. Very enjoyable.

I was running a class on family history today and lecturing on the Importance of Talking to Your Elderly Relatives While You Still Have The Chance. One of my pupils said that her mother was Lionel Logue's receptionist and did occasionally talk about his most famous client. Alas, her daugher actually remembers saying 'Oh, mum. Stop going on about it. Nobody's ever going to be interested in you and your speech therapist'

I watched it on Monday and enjoyed it-Colin Firth should've shed a few pounds for the role though!

I take the point about the swearing in the movie illustrating Bertie's frustration. It is a well-known fact though that the King had a violent temper and may have sworn quite a bit - even in front of the ladies!

Sisterluke, you have succeeded in shocking me! I didn't know nuns swore, especially the f word!

Are you really a nun, or were you just kidding us in the "Killer Curry" thread?

She is indeed! I'm also a big fan of Black Narcissus. Lots of naughty nuns in that one. Sister Clodagh was that close to slapping on the lippy. You don't fool me Deborah Kerr. And no, I'm not really a nun, I just don't like curries.

But Deborah Kerr did wear some lipstick in Black Narcissus.

Her lips were naturally so red that it looked like she was wearing lipstick even when she wasn't, so they made her wear some pale lipstick to tone down their natural colour

So a quick wipe would have sufficed then

i loved this film, Colin Firth is excellent as the royal, and as far as im concerned the role of Queen Elizabeth was made for Helena Bonham Carter, i was going to mention Elland Rd being used in the film but someone beat me to it lol
