Is it just me or is anyone else really uncomfortable at the idea of Simon Pegg playing young Scottie in the latest Star Trek movie - as announced on the BBC today? I totally respect his track record to date and feel this is a pretty terrible career move. I also worry about what his scottish accent might be like - any experience? Couldn't be worse than the original I suppose.

Are you uncomfortable about Pegg's career, or for the credibility of the film?

Personally I think it's a bad idea for anyone else to play those parts. It'd be just another 'remake' of a classic series rather than an extension of the originals. IMHO what made the film series so successful was that the original tv actors were in them, from both incarnations of the series.

'Next Generation', 'Deep Space 9', they're all a waste of time. Only the first series will do for me!

Have to agree,
No one could replace Montgomery Scott. I think the whole remake/sequel route on movies in general is well and truly redundant on a usefulness level, though sadly, not a commercial one. Even to an incurable trekkie like me, 10 movies is easily enough. The idea of making a another film built around Kirk's younger years, just to accomodate new actors and stretch out the franchise, leaves me
unimpressed. Set phasers to kill and long live Scotty!

I think the idea is as dumb as doing a Star Trek movie with the original crew played by new awfully young actors.

A better idea would have been to have placed a brand new crew into the Star Trek movies with a new mission... have movie Star Trekkers not related to any of the TV series.

I think Simon Pegg is the most wrong of all the awful casting decisions in this movie that will be hated and despised for the rest of eternity. Grrrrrrrrrr.

I totally agree (However much I always disliked Riker, Beverly Crusher and that ships counselor empath woman).

I kind of agree... although I watched and enjoyed the later series... they all pale in the light of 'Babylon 5' though IMHO.

No argument there, but none of them were as bad as Wesley Crusher. I was so glad when he left!

Simon Pegg as Scottie, A very good comedic actor but come on, I'd rather have Andy Stewart or Robbie Coltrane, hehe.

Now here's a little ditty for you and I bet you sing it all the way through!

Star Trekkin'
By: The Firm

Star Trekkin' across the universe,
On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk.
Star Trekkin' across the universe,
Boldly going forward 'cuz we can't find reverse.

Lt. Uhura, report.
There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow,
there's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim.

Analysis, Mr. Spock
It's life Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it;
it's life Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain.

There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow,
there's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim.

Star Trekkin' across the universe,
On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk.
Star Trekkin' across the universe,
Boldly going forward, still can't find reverse.

Medical update, Dr. McCoy.
It's worse than that he's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead Jim;
it's worse than that he's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead.

It's life Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it;
it's life Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain.

There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow,
there's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim.

Starship Captain, James T. Kirk:
Ah! We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill;
we come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, men.

It's worse than that he's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead Jim;
it's worse than that he's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead.

Well, It's life Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it;
it's life Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain.

There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow,
there's Klingons on the starboard bow, scrape 'em off, Jim.

Star Trekkin' across the universe,
On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk.
Star Trekkin' across the universe,
Boldly going forward, and things are getting worse!

Engine Room, Mr. Scott:
Ye canna change the laws of physics, laws of physics, laws of physics;
ye canna change the laws of physics, laws of physics, Jim.

Ah! We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill;
we come in peace, shoot to kill; Scotty beam me up!

It's worse than that he's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead Jim;
it's worse than that, he's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead.

Well, it's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it;
it's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain.

There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;
there's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow ahhhhh!

Ye canna change the script Jim.
Och, #!& Jimmy.

It's worse than that it's physics, Jim.

Bridge to engine room, warp factor 9.

Och, if I give it any more she'll blow, Cap'n!

Star Trekkin' across the universe,

Sorry geezer, worse! James Doohan is a legend and will never be forgotten, are you saying that James Doohan was a bad actor? Argue with the squillions of Trekkies out there. I would never dare upset a Trekkie, watch out for those Photon torpedoes!!!!!

I agree again... John Boy was OK... Wesley Crusher needed to be told to SHFFITF... To paraphrase Miss Piggy slightly... 'Stuff His Froggy Face into the Floor'.
