This looks good, don't you think?

I wonder who's playing Jean Kent.

BBC - BBC Radio 4 Programmes - Front Row, Kenneth Branagh talks to Mark Lawson

There doesn't appear to be a role for Jean but there is for Richard Wattis

I hope that this will prompt BBC 4 to repeat The Prince the Showgirl and Me

Amazing make up job on Ken. He looks just like Olivier. I'm looking forward to this.

I imagine so, although it is still shown semi-regularly: The Prince and the Showgirl (1957) - Film on Freeview @ viewfilm.net

    Windy, I agree! It's uncanny.

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it - the scenes in the studios are very funny (there's even a blink-and-you'll-miss it cameo for Norman Wisdom ) and Ken and Michelle Williams are both superb. It lost its way rather during the lengthy dialogues between Colin Clark and Marilyn but I assume they're the core of the book (which I've not read). And there's even a cameo for Simon Russell Beale - you wait for years for him to make a film and then two come out on one day Plus, Carson gets a week off from Downton Abbey. Which is nice.

Yes i agree, the scenes between monroe and Clarke become rather tiresome whereas the scenes in the studio are really funny and somewhat merciless on poor old Olivier.Prince $ The Showgirl is extremely dull and not worth looking at even though it is on tv today.

    My week with Marilyn

There was an excellent reading of the book on Radio 4 last week but I had no idea that a doc film had been made from Colin Clark's original diary 'The Prince, The Showgirl and Me'. I would love to see this film. Does anyone have a copy of it? I would pay whatever costs might be involved.
    Thank you very much.

I have a VHS copy of it but I can't find it, I have been looking for some time. The film is still on You Tube.

Wasn't there something about an infinite number of monkeys at an infinite number of typewriters?
Even a Daily Mail columnist will occasionally write something that you agree with

She certainly had a certain something that caught the eye of millions of people so if you consider mass appeal a talent she certainly oozed it in my opinion. She was a wonderfully sensual woman if nothing else.

Sometime a British film hits the target. For me this hits the bullseye! Best British film I've seen since An Education.

The cast are excellent. Michelle Williams captures all the insecurities of Monroe and the sensitivity. Kenneth Branagh, who I must admit I've never reall enjoyed watching, is terrific as Olivier, encapsulating all the frustrations he must have endured making The Prince and The Showgirl. The lead, Eddie Redmayne is very good and the supporting cast including an unrecognisable Dougray Scott as Arthur Miller with Dominic Coper giving another very good performance as Marilyn's agent. I have yet to see him give anything else, he really is a good actor.

The production really captures the feel of the time, how bad can it be going behind the scenes at Pinewood in the 1950's?? Afficionados of this site, I am sure will appreciate many of the nuances. I loved it.
