Ah, but Bronson's stillness and slow movement was a part of his menace. He didn't need to leap around to look tough like Stallone does

But there are many, many of us - especially those who are well past (decades past) the teen years - who deliberately do NOT go to these films, or almost any films in the theatres.

Oh, it's frustrating.

(Please excuse my tantrum)

Exactly - you said it well silverwhistle....

and the results are, for the most part, dumbed-down, illiterate films.

Grrrrrrr....

Banned in Burma I've read. Errol Flynn would be devastated.

His best, if not only, Acting, was done in that Cops movie. I still pay full respect to any person who can achieve what he has materially achieved, notwithstanding a physical speech impediment.

I saw Paradise Alley a long time ago and thought it wasn't a half bad film, served up late one Saturday night after a few beers down the local.
I seem to remember it was an essay in how to wrestle in the rain.

Sly probably doen't expect anybody with a modicom of intelligence to take him seriously though. He just likes making action movies.
He had a rather frightening appearance at the BAFTAS (what is he 60ish?)

I thought that Stallone’s latest Rambo effort was wonderful. I laughed my head off watching him firing arrows at super sonic speed and decapitating bad guys at point blank range with an antitank gun. At one point he out ran what I believe was a small nuclear explosion..lol. I was on the floor in tears at this point in the movie! Great to see that someone in Hollywood still has an eye for a good comedy. I think we will see him again in ten years time with a rocket powered zimmer. Lol… I remember reading recently a comment from Sly. He said that “fame was as addictive as cocaine, and I’ve been cold turkey for too long.”

I think he would make a good director, don’t know why he doesn’t move into that side of the business.

Thanks Bats. I new he had directed Paradise Ally; I thoroughly enjoyed it and one of the Rocky movies. Didn’t realise he had directed the others.

'First Blood' was and still is a genuinely excellent film... a taught, gripping, realistic action thriller about a loner pushed too far. Stallone was backed up by a stellar cast, and the film incorporated a healthy cynicism and criticism of the way many Vietnam Vets were treated upon their return.

'First Blood: Part 2' was when things started to get silly, with Rambo going from being an outsider forced through no fault of his own to fight for his survival to a one man apocalypse with an Uzi under each arm and an American flag waving above his head, decimating and entire army of uncharacterized, disposable, cardboard cut-out militia.
Despite this, I still found it to be a very well-made and ultimately enjoyable action thriller.

'Rambo 3' has not fared so well, partly because it is not really very good and especially because of this line which appears on the end titles, dating it considerably; 'This film is dedicated to the gallant people of Afghanistan'.

As for the 4th Rambo; a loud, nasty, horrific mess of a film that revels in violence, rape and torture for its own sake under the hypocritical pretence of shedding light on a real-world situation. I personally thought better of Stallone, as he is someone who I have always respected. Only 2 things redeem it for me; the mercifully short running time and Graham McTavish as a foul-mouthed SAS Sergeant goading his captors with these fine words: 'YOU GUTLESS F***. COME AND HAVE A GO AT ME YOU LADYBOY C***!'. Priceless!
