Default Bronte: The movie

Yes, they are about to start fiming on a new movie about the Bronte sisters. Should be interesting! I love thier books especailly Charlotte`s `Jane Ayre`.

I am guessing that the storyline will involve the trouble with thier brother being an alchoholic and being on opium.

Default A breath of fresh Ayre

Hi Fagin's girl,
I loved the "Jane Eyre" book at school.
But enough about the Victorian age...
Who's going to play the lead and main support in the movie?
I dread to think what Hollywood would do to the story of the Bronte Sisters - or is it going to be a UK or Merchant Ivory type production?
Regards,
Edward G.

Been keeping an eye on this for a while, I think it has been knocking about in production for years - I think it had Jonathon Rhys Meyers attached at one point to play Branwell if I remember rightly, then he dropped out. Now IMDB say it has Charles Sturridge directing, director of Brideshead Revisited etc, which seems to have got some great names in - Kristin Scott Thomas, Rebecca Hall, Joan Plowright etc so could be really good stuff.

There was a Bronte TV series in the 70s which at the time was 'critically acclaimed' but struck me as a bit dull - I remember entire scenes devoted to the sisters walking round the dining table for exercise. BBC did a documentary a few years back which was really good, very moody and, um, Wuthering.

I remember watching Devotion the Hollywood version of the Bronte story years and years ago.

Great fun and Sydney Greenstreet turned up as Thackeray!

I am reminded of the lines in Shakespeare in Love ... ( I can't remember them exactly)

Tavern Keeper: Off now are you Mr Marlowe?
Marlowe: Yes, just popping down to Deptford
