Happy-Go-Lucky - Britmovie

I'm surprised that there aren't any comments on the new Mike Leigh film. Is Leigh somehow not a Britmovie director?

I'll kick off by noting that some people seem to think that this is untypically upbeat for Leigh, but it seems to me to be very much in line with the majority of Leigh's previous films and TV plays. As usual, the performances and direction are excellent but I still find something disturbing about the films. Partly because of the location (supposedly Finsbury Park) it reminded me of High Hopes. The central character, Poppy, played by Sally Hawkins would drive me mad if I ever met her, but she has redeeming features (she looks like a great teacher).

i saw it last week and found it to be a crashing bore.
