He'll be 34 this year and was 30 when he made The Aviator. I thought he gave a great performance. Of course Howard Hughes himself was only 25 when he directed Hells Angels so if anything, DiCaprio was too old for the part

Being a fan of Scorsese I went to see "The Aviator" when it came out. I think Di Caprio is a good actor but I really thought he looked too young in the part and totally lacked the mature gravitas of a mogul like Hughes. I mean he may have been 30 but I think he looks very boyish and not very manly, and it doesn't even look like he has any facial hair so that little stick on moustache looked a bit silly.

Hughes himself may have been young but I always think young people aged in their 30s from yesteryear always looked older and more "grown up" than people do nowadays. Hughes may have been aged 30ish in some of those newsreel films that he appears talking about the "spruce goose plane" but he still looks 15 or 20 years older than DiCaprio. Perhaps its the responsibility that makes young people seem older and more mature, DiCaprio just didn't have the physical look for me, I enjoyed the film but I just never believed him in the role so I found it quite unsatisfying in that respect.
