Bond 21 = Casino Royale?
CommanderBond reports that they are now hearing from multiple independent sources close to the production that the current draft of "Bond 21" by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade is based on Ian Fleming’s first James Bond novel, "Casino Royale". Whether or not the film will be called Casino Royale is still not known. Purvis and Wade last used the Ian Fleming novel "Moonraker" as the basis for "Die Another Day". 'Royale' was first published in 1953 and was most famously adapted as a 1967 satirical comedy starring David Niven and Peter Sellers - an adaptation that had no relation to the main 20 films produced under the Cubby Broccoli/Harry Saltzman Eon Productions banner. The rights to the novel reverted back to MGM in the late 90's. Set entirely in Royale-les-Eaux, a resort village in N.E. France, Casino Royale is a rather small scale Bond novel which no doubt will be expanded by Purvis and Wade. Whilst those Prague location rumours may prove to be false, a Bond Girl named Vesper Lynd and a villain named Le Chiffre are apparently distinct possibilities. |

Too much to hope for now, but the real era for this film was '63, when EON did FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. CASINO then would have been an excellent movie if it had been shot in the same style - RUSSIA was one of the best ever Bonds.
Nowadays, like a certain Government dossier, it will have to be considerably 'sexed up' to make it contemporary. There was a rumour AGES ago that this was the Bond film that Tarantino wanted to make. That torture scene in the book makes me wince to this day- I am sure that he would love to have a go at executing that one. No doubts there are many more rumours to pour forth from the mill yet ; like the one that says Orlando Bloom may portray a younger James Bond. BIG MISTAKE ! A killer like that needs some depth and maturity - besides, in Bond's era jobs like his would never be entrusted to weak-kneed little boys ! SMUDGE
