Danny Cannon Kicks Soccer Trilogy

Danny Cannon (Judge Dredd, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer), executive producer for all three editions of the CBS forensics franchise "CSI," will return to the big screen as director of soccer film Goal! for Icon Entertainment.

Written by Mike Jefferies with Adrian Butchart, Goal! stars Diego Luna and is intended as the first chapter in a $100 million trilogy about a young Latino from the barrios of East Los Angeles who becomes an international soccer star.

Principal photography for Goal!, slated for a winter start, will take place in England, Los Angeles and Mexico. Cannon replaces Michael Winterbottom, who dropped out over creative differences.

The second movie in the trilogy has its hero playing in the Uefa Champions League with Real Madrid, currently home to David Beckham. In the third movie, he plays in 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, the world's biggest sporting event, in Germany.
