Smile Mamma Mia

This Anglo/US flick looks good. To see Meryl Streep send herself up must be worth a ticket and she is still gorgeous!

From the clips I've seen it's probably a tad too cheesey for my taste. Is it a reworking of Shirley Valentine?

The trailer on TV starts with the voiceover: "At last, the wait is over...". What wait?

All those people who have been waiting for this ever since ABBA stopped recording and performing

Meryl Streep had been interviewed on the Jonathan Ross Show, and a clip was shown from the film, with MS singing Dancing Queen and what a good voiceshe had. In fact, she came over rather well on the interview.

In the ITV "documentary" promoting it she did look like she sang and danced very well. Less so Pierce Brosnan who looked embarrassed by it all and danced like your Dad at a wedding

I can't stand Meryl Streep, I think she's grossly over-rated - but by thunder she can sing!
She does a great number called "I'm Checkin' Out" at the end of Postcards From The Edge; it's terrific.

DS x.

Not exactly my cup of tea. I was not a great Abba fan.

Reports are though that the film is expected to attract a large homosexual following. Abba apparently have always been big in gay clubs.

Dave.

True, but you don't have to be gay to like them
Straight men can like ABBA, they can even like musicals

I agree,Steve. I've always liked Abba, since they won the Eurovision Song Contest. However,I didn't like that cheesy Abba tribute single that came out a few years with Billie Piper and co!

Other reports are that men unsure of their own sexuality feel the need to associate homosexuals with all things they feel are unmanly hoping to appear more masculine (Other reports suggest this doesn't really work)

The musical hasn't run ever single day for 10 years in countries around the world if it only appealed to abba fans. It appeals to anyone who isn't so full of it that they don't have room for a bit more feel good.
