Eccleston to star in romantic comedy

Actor Christopher Eccleston is to make a romantic comedy after quitting his role as Dr Who.

Eccleston has signed up to star in low-budget British film Double Life.

It will be directed by Joe Ahearne – who directed two episodes of the new Dr Who, including the one which saw the return of the Daleks.

Eccleston, 41, recently caused a storm when it was revealed he is leaving the BBC1 show after just one series.

In Double Life he will play a man who believes he has fallen in love with twin sisters – only to discover they are the same woman.



Billed as “a tale of love and obsession“, it will be set in Budapest and produced by Lynda La Plante’s company Cougar Films.

Details of the project were announced at the Cannes Film Festival.

Eccleston’s previous films include Shallow Grave, Elizabeth and 28 Days Later.

The actor has proved a massive hit with viewers in the revived Dr Who, which features Billie Piper as his feisty side-kick.

He will leave the show at the end of the year and be replaced by David Tennant.
