News is that the Monty Python team are currently compiling a new six-part series for American television. The series is titled "Monty Python's Personal Best" with the five remaining member's each writing and presenting their own special episode.They will each showcase their favourite Python bits from film & television and link them together with new material.
The sixth episode in the series will be a tribute to Graham Chapman.
The episode's are being filmed at various locations. Micheal Palin chose to do his at Teddington Lock in London and Eric Idle at the Hollywood Bowl in California.
The series will be screened on PBS in the US next year.A deal has not been made yet for broadcast in the UK.

Great news to also see Eric Idle'e Broadway musical "Spamalot" doing so well in the States. Based on Python's 'Holy Grail' the show has apparantly wowed critics over there and won numerous awards including three Tony Awards last month. One being for best musical.

Wow! This is quite a surprise. It'll be good to see them back together again, if indeed we Brits do get to see it at all. One of my DVD gripes is that you still can't get the complete TV series of Python in R2. You can in R1, of course. What's that all about!!

I believe the US DVD version of Python is heavily Americanised - that is to say, the really, really British bits have been removed as some kind of irrelevance that North Americans won't get. Perhaps they should just remake the whole thing?

That's not so - there are a few edits; the Summarise Proust sketch is the censored version that went out in the 70s with a word edited out, for instance, and a couple of minor things are missing from other shows, so it's not ideal. But it's nothing to do with Americanising. More a mix of not using the best master tapes and one or two goofs on behalf of the compilers, I think.

But I've heard that an R2 set is on the way, probably next year, to be done properly and very probably with lots of good extras.

As long as it is a good DVD set I'd wait an extra five or ten years. I read on another forum that a cut animation might be used as an extra.
