September 29, 2005 - Actress Kate Winslet is nearing a deal to join Cameron Diaz in the romantic comedy Holiday, according to today's Hollywood Reporter. The trade scoops that Winslet, most recently seen in Finding Neverland, has been in talks to join the Columbia Pictures-based project for about a week, but they'd been struggling to overcome scheduling conflicts that have now been resolved.

Holiday is the latest project from Something's Gotta Give filmmaker Nancy Meyers. The story centers around an American woman (Diaz) with man troubles who travels to the U.K. for a vacation. Her fortune improves when she crosses paths with a British villager (Winslet) with similar problems.

Shooting is reportedly set to start early next year. The film will lens in Europe and the United States.

Someone must have a pretty low excitement threshold to even contemplate making such a weak story into a film. What's even more incredible is that someone actually reported such a non-event in a magazine expecting people to be interested!
It sounds like the type of film that will be at the cinema for just one week and then in the shops the following week in the bargain basement DVD bin "10 DVD's for a quid plus a free DVD player!", and even then you'd have to think long and hard about parting with a quid!
All new film ideas should have to be put before a committee of people with common sense and good taste, and anyone suggesting such dull and unimaginative stories should be slapped around the face very hard with a wet window leather and have their film director's licence revoked!

But where can they find those in Hollywood?
Anyone with those qualifications isn't allowed to work there (or doesn't want to)

Well I'm continuing my one man boycott of all Hollywood over-hyped crap films and so far this year I've probably saved around four hundred pounds, and if you add the cost of rubber lukewarm boiled hotdogs and polystyrene chips popcorn, then more like six hundred!

I predict a collapse of the US cinema industry within the next four years, because even the yanks aren't stupid enough to put up with the sort of crap they've been offered in recent times! Bring back creativity before it's too late! Time to sort out the men from the bores!
