the effects, even by 1950's standards, are poor for a largish budget film...look at films like Thief of Bagdad for what was possible even in the thirties.. Who could match Redgrave's performance though...that will be the test.
At least they're not colorizing the original...[/quote]

I cannot argue with you about the SE of the original, they were poor to say the least and even at that time could have been done much much better. As for the performance of Redgrave what can one say, and who will get the task of trying to even equal it yet alone better it, after all that is what a remake is supposed to do, i would not dare to say. In the original whilst testing the bomb Redgrave throws his arms in the air at a sucessful drop, Wallis himself can bee seen doing this in footage of the drop showing how far Redgrave had studied for his part.....Quite alot to follow dont you think....

One, the effects, even by 1950's standards, are poor for a largish budget film...look at films like Thief of Bagdad for what was possible even in the thirties.. Two, that Richard Todd, splendid performance though he gives, and his comrades, are way, way too old by ten to fifteen years....bigger details, in the scheme of things, I would suggest, than the name of a dog. Who could match Redgrave's performance though...that will be the test.

Well here is the dog that has caused all the banter about his name.....According to reports he was the second most hated creature on the camp, the first being Gibson. He was often seen urinating on staffs kit.....The dog that is!!!!

It's a fantastic shot, not one I've seen before. I take it that it's the real thing, not a promotional still from the film...Lancs are beautiful too, aren't they??

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

I do agree, and especially when they are airborne. You might wonder how such a shape ever gets into the air

Unlike the storyline to the film, the real Nigger was killed after being run over by a car outside the camp BEFORE the famous Dam Buster raid and not after.

Gibson later recalled how he felt after hearing of his dogs death -
"And so I went to my room on the eve of this adventure with my dog gone...the squadron mascot...I looked at the scratch marks on the door Nigger used to make when he wanted to go out and felt very depressed."

Nigger's grave is still maintained with great reverence at the old RAF Scampton base in Lincolnshire.

First there was King Kong and now another childhood dream is about to come true for film-maker Peter Jackson – a $76 million new version of the classic film The Dam Busters.

Oh dear, Not what i wanted to hear, bad news indeed !!!

Might not be that bad, Peter Jackson has made some very good films and he could do a really in depth version of this story. Just imagine the Dam Busters Trilogy; The Fellowship of the Bouncing Bomb; The Three Dams; The Return of the Wing Commander.

The thing to remember about remakes is, though they usually stink to high heaven, the original still exists for us all to enjoy.

I wonder if they will use the original music. I mean,it would not be the Dambusters wwithout Eric Coates rousing theme.

They'll probably replace the classic theme with some [c]rap music in the hope that it'll make it appeal to the kids that most films are aimed at.
