Default Another 28 Weeks Later

Source: Variety Monday, June 21, 2004

Fox Searchlight is developing a sequel to 28 Days Later, the Danny Boyle-directed horror film that became a fall hit in 2002, reports Variety. The trade says that the tentative title is 28 Weeks Later and that the studio is in talks with Rowan Joffe (BBC's Last Resort) to write the script.

Boyle is not expected to direct the sequel, though he and screenwriter Alex Garland likely will take producing roles alongside the first film's producer, Andrew Macdonald.

In the original, a powerful virus is unleashed on the British public following a raid on a primate research facility by animal rights activists. Transmitted in a drop of blood and devastating within seconds, the virus locks those infected into a permanent state of murderous rage. Within 28 days the country is overwhelmed and a handful of survivors begin their attempts to salvage a future, little realizing that the deadly virus is not the only thing that threatens them.

The low-budget film, starring Cillian Murphy, grossed $45 million in the U.S. and north of $25 million overseas.

Renner will play Sgt. Doyle, one of the heroes of the sequel.

I'll probably watch this one because I enjoy the End Of World As We Know It genre, a monthly fantasy that surfaces as bills arrive in the mail.

Source: Fox Atomic
April 2, 2007

On May 11, the rage virus returns in 28 Weeks Later, the anticipated Fox Atomic sequel, and ComingSoon.net has your exclusive first look at six photos from the film.

Six months after the rage virus has annihilated the British Isles, the US Army declares that the war against infection has been won, and that the reconstruction of the country can begin. In the first wave of returning refugees, a family is reunited -- but one of them unwittingly carries a terrible secret. The virus is not yet dead, and this time, it is more dangerous than ever.

28 Weeks Later stars Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Catherine McCormack, Imogen Poots, Idris Elba and Mackintosh Muggleton.

I am SO looking forward (where IS that gag emoticon?) to a Hollywood-ish view of how the great US Army can manage England. Or will the US Congress cut off the funding before GW's "job is done"?!! Whatever that may be... since he doesn't know, I can't wait to see what England might look like.

Say, what about a giant pair of golden arches?

McLondon?

McEngland?

McUK?

Oh yes, I'm SO looking forward to this film... any chance that the triffids will return as mankind's last hope, and none of the survivors will know what the triffids are capable of?

Or is that 28 YEARS LATER?

Surely the next sequel in the series will be 28 Months Later
Or, given that it's in England, will it be 20 Fortnights Later?

It's rumoured that there will be an avenue in 28 Weeks Later for a third installment helmed by Boyle again.

I hope so! I am SO looking forward to more and more of these. I'm thinking that, starting with the 4th film - which will actually be Episode 1 (or should it be Episode 13, starting the end of the quadrilogy?) - Luke Bikerider is either learning to be a bike-messenger or returns to a far-away land to learn cyclo-cross, Ber Hur style. They'll have light bikepumps to slash thru infected armies along each Col's road.

I'm thinking, "Episode 13 - Revenge Of EPO" or something like that, eh?

I'm going to set the alarm right now.

(Where is half-past-Never on this clock?)
