Can't be worse than the Ali G feature film but I suspect Borat will be funny on initial viewing but not the sort of satire you'd watch repeatadly.
Apple - Trailers - Borat - Trailer G And my favourite clip from the tv series: YouTube - Borat - Throw the Jews down the well |

I saw this movie a few months ago at a press screening. I wasn't expecting much but it's the funniest movie I've ever seen. Fact!
It's far from the best movie ever but I laughed so hard from start to finish that it hurt. It's not just a longer version of the TV appearances, it has a proper storyline that is very well executed. Sure, it weaves in the interviews with unknowing Americans but there's so much more to it. Go see Borat, it may be rely on shock value from time to time but it will have you in stitches Last edited by rediffusion; 26-10-2006 at 06:59 PM. |

I saw a clip from it on The Jonathan Ross Show, where Borat was in a US Civil War Memorablia Shop and I just found it embarrassing, likewise "Borat's" performance
: on the show. I don't think I'll bother.Ta Ta Marky B ![]()

I see Borat is turning out to be a HUGE hit in America.
The feature film grossed over $26 Million in its first weekend of release making it Number One on the US box office charts. Bigger sales are expected into next week. Seems the Americans can also see the funny side of Borat. Dave. |

Ggeeee --I said that I'd refrain from further comment if
It's even worse than I feared it might be, yet...from my perspective, the youth of America are eating it up as a parody somewhere between Nacho Libre and Jackass. Sadly, leaning more towards the latter. The "Civil War Memorabilia Shop" pratfalls (actually, it was a plain junk shop, and the plates that Cohen fell all over were clearly cheap) struck me as the worst part of the movie. The best parts were the beginning and end credits. Between that, it was mostly disappointing, speaking as one who liked his 1/2 hour show quite a lot.Final verdict on Cohen's first feature: it's the best one based on a comic sketch character since It's Pat!... ...note that the only feature of this type I really like is Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, which had a real plot to keep it clicking along. The Borat plot is scarcely more believable to me than Spiceworld. Mr. Cohen should go back to TV where he belongs, where he was never worse than half-bad. On the big screen -here I am agreeing with Marky B for the first time-it's damned embarrassing.

The hype for Borat, Cohen's first feature film released in my country, was unmistakable. The word about da Ali G Indahouse flick never reached me. Sounds like a direct-to-video dealy. Did it have a semblance of plot, or was it like an extended bunch of sketches stitched together? I probably won't read the reviews, if there are any, so whatever you tell me about it, rediffusion, I must count as the Gospel.

I see Borat is still sitting at number one on the US Box Office top earners list for the second week running.
Borat Sagdiyev is currently visiting Australia to promote the film and was quoted as saying that he would very much like to find an Australian wife. ![]() The film opens in Australia on November 23rd. Dave. |

I must admit the film was funny, but I'm not sure about the "rightness" of it. Of course, a big chunk of it is about exposing American prejudices, which is all fine, but I'm not sure what I think about Cohen's representation of Eastern Europeans. I fear that aspect of it is a bit Little-Britain-ish - a cheap shot at people who are different rather than anything genuinely satirical.

Borat's supposed to be doing great business in the States so it may at least give the lie to the stuffy old cliche that Americans have no sense of irony and cannot laugh at themselves.............
I believe the lawyers are getting involved though with a couple of drunken students thinking of sewage........ Is that what I meant? Gulfnews: Fraternity boys sue Borat over film role ![]()
