Cameras roll on new St Trinian's

Cameras are to begin rolling on the latest film in the St Trinian's saga.

The cast includes Rupert Everett in the dual role of the headmistress and her brother and Colin Firth as an MP, along with Russell Brand and Stephen Fry.

The first film chronicling the unruly adventures at the "school for young ladies" was made in 1954 and starred Alastair Sim and Joyce Grenfell.

Shooting is due to begin in and around Ealing Studios in west London at the end of March.

Producers have said that more casting announcements can be expected in the coming weeks.

The film will see the school's dire financial situation making it vulnerable to an MP's plans to turn it into a respectable institution.

Ealing Studios produced some of Britain's best-loved comedies of the 1940s and 50s, including Whisky Galore and The Ladykillers.

I've always thought this would be fertile ground for plenty of stories for a creative mind.

When was the last time we've seen a major star performing in-drag for a central character? The PRISCILLA QUEEN OF DESERT / TO JULIE NEWMAR films?

Are we talking about playing a drag-artist character, or a male actor playing a female character, and vice-versa??
One of the best casting strokes was in Sally Potter's Orlando, with Quentin Crisp playin Queen Elizabeth I.....

Pen, much more recent, too! Thanks.

Orph, the hopes for Rupert to come close to a Sims performance remain. I hope the filmmakers don't insist on Replacements and Remakes but are creative enough to find new stories and let new characters fill their own shoes. That's often difficult enough.

I think you're right there orpheum - whatever, the film will no doubt be vulgar; foul mouthed and down right shoddy. As one of the last 'Carry Ons' were.

We were all a bit 'innocent' when the originals were made - (well I was!) so the film will exhibit the morals and moors of today - they should forget it!

Hmmmm....

I don't expect a lot, but I shall reserve judgment. I did (rather foolishly) sit through THE WILDCATS OF ST. TRINIANS once....

Default The idea of a new St Trninans film is probably funnier than the film will be...

Just checked the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st. We need a new St Trinians film like we need another version of "My Way". Some films are of their time and new versions somehow tarnish the originals. Last time I reran THE LADYKILLERS, the awful 2004 remake was so much still on my mind that I kept waiting for Kate Johnson to tell Jack Warner to go f--- himself.

Smudge, I know what you mean. I always try to curb my enthusiasm, and then we get nuts in here who make me want to run out and see stage versions of 39 STEPS and they get me believing in those lost notions of "creativity" and "skillfulness" all over again.

Honest, I wouldn't knock Van Sant down. Yeah, I'd kick him. But I wouldn't be the one to knock him down.

I would have thought Stephen Fry would have been better cast in the Alastair Sim roles. I wonder who plays Flash Harry?

By the look of others in the cast - seems just right for Hugh Grant

I tried to like this bloke, but his wild staring eyes and screaming is beyond me. Maybe,I'm getting old . Sometimes,I think in the audience, some are just laughing because others are laughing, and the others are laughing because some are laughing, and they are all thinking "What's funny about this?"
