Well that is one very good reason not to go and see it.

I think it is an insult to George Cole to cast someone as untalented and unfunny as Russell Brand as Flash Harry. At least with 'The Wildcats of St. Trinian's' they cast a decent actor - Joe Melia - in the part. For some reason the equally untalented and unfunny Jimmy Carr has broken into films and in my view is one of the worst performers. He now has a silver screen rival. Perhaps they will team up and appear in the worst British Comedy of all time.

(Honest - my TRASHY thread has NOTHING to do with any hopes of using these two "actors" to revive that genre, although that would be infinitely preferable to having the ST TRINIANS' good name murdered, all for want of salary.)

Instead of reviving "ST.TRINIANS" why not turn Geoffrey Willians Molesworth books into a film. Bring Ronald Searle's pictures to life someone like Tim Burton at the helm should do it justice.

I think I may have caused a bit of confusion with my previous post. As far as I know Jimmy Carr isn't in the cast of the new St. Trinians film. I just find him and Russell Brand to be both lacking in the talent department and was imagining them teaming uptogether in a future film that could end up being the worst British comedy of all time.

Nog, I was wondering if this could be some SPRINGTIME FOR HITLER effect - so many negatives that it'd become absurdly good.

Wouldn't that twat Russell Brand of been better playing the part of one of the girls instead of Flash Harry:

I read that the 6th formers will not be wearing gymslips and suspenders If the 6th formers are not wearing gymslips and suspenders then its not St Trinians

Let's wait and see....who knows, with a script, the otherwise witless Russell Brand might be passable...his extemporised stand-up is execrable, but then I never saw George Cole do stand-up....Rupert Everett in make-up - more than usual anyway - so resembles Camilla it could actually be funny....and I know Jimmy Carr was awful as a game-show host, but as a stand-up, he is superb....

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Lily Cole enrols at St Trinian's
Wednesday April 11, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

Model Lily Cole was one of the last-minute additions to the cast of the St Trinian's remake, which officially began shooting last month. Cole was instantly thrown into the thick of the action, dressed up in a schoolgirl outfit for a scene being shot in London's Trafalgar Square yesterday.

Other late additions include Lena Headey, Celia Imrie and Infamous star Toby Jones. They join a cast that already includes Colin Firth, Stephen Fry and the comedian Russell Brand. Rupert Everett headlines in the dual role as the school's officious headmistress and her dissolute brother. The film is directed by Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thomas.

The St Trinian's stories began life as cartoons by Ronald Searle. The first film, The Belles of St Trinian's, was released in 1954 and spawned three sequels.

I'm surprised at Colin Firth's inclusion....Peter Firth maybe..but Col?

If ever there was a film bound for hades...this is it. The originals are all in my collection and my children love them too. Frank and Sid will no doubt be watching from the heavens with interest.

There's no need to kneel, I'm a very democratic sort of lord.

I am uncertain how I can give this film a 'fair chance'. I'll hope for the best, but, uh, what's that? NOT losing my lunch IN the theatre? NOT having others around me do it?

Oh joy, what a grand achievement THAT would be!

"Yes, that's what we're shooting for - let's remake this film and hope most people don't throw up!"

"And let's not worry about hate-mobs with torches and pitchforks - after all, we can only ask for so much..."

Brett, I for one, will probably have the torches and pitchforks waiting...

I'd sure like to see the Research Data that compels this remake, by the way. I keep wondering, "If only HALF of the marketing money was spent on a re-release campaign, might the originals make as much or more in profits?"

Like politicians, I think that film-makers feel they have to be seen doing something. Even if they know it'll be a disaster.

If only we could find an honest film-maker (or politician) who would say "Sorry, but we've run out of ideas"

Similar to many subjects, I see the "Opening Weekend" measurements as another double-edged sword. I think many films never 'find their legs' because they get pulled so quickly, and probably an equal number don't deserve any additional theatre-time.

Are we Sovietized enough to read between the Pravda lines and understand what's really good? I like to believe the viewing audiences get wiser. I just wish filmmakers and their financiers would do the same.

I believe most every remake says exactly that, Steve - "We have no good ideas". Else they'd never be stuck in a toilet of remakes. While I first laughed and smirked at the stupid notion of "Let them remake only bad films", I now view that notion with complete approval - do a SPRINGTIME FOR HITLER leap and find the worst 'property' and put it out there.

Let's see... that would be... uh...

ISHTAR.

"Springtime... for Ishtar... and Oompa-loompa-Land..."
