The real thing ............
The original Maltese Falcon was very good, the remake better!! as Mr. Halliwell said the difference between excellence & Brilliance

I haven't seen it yet but I'm sure I will. Anything with such a catholic mix as Rupert Everett, Anna Chancellor, Lena Headey, Fenella Woolgar, Celia Imrie, Girls Aloud and Stephen Fry in it has to be worth viewing!

My 16-yr-old god-daughter has seen it and loved it, I'm fairly sure that's the demographic they're aiming for and it seems to be doing okay at the box office (the only British film that's in the top ten).

I wonder if The Belles of St Trinians received a similarly harrumphing reaction when released in '54?

Why oh why do film makers think they can better the orginal. Without the comic genuis of Mr Sim they are on a hiding to nothing.

Also take War of the Worlds for another example. The version starring Gene Barry, which was on TV the other day, hasn't been bettered. I could go on & on but I won't

To Choice the answer is no/To Chrisjohn there is no law that says an original is sacrosant. The original is a good film with great stars, but they cant show this in the cinemas today.Despite the negative vibes on this site i went and saw it and quite enjoyed it and my teenage days are alas long gone.

Just to clarify, the Amazon price *includes* vat. So the £10.98 quoted for this is the actual price. Yes, postage is extra but if your order totals at least £15 then postage can be free - if you select it.

Let`s face it, the days of the classic Ealing comedies are long since gone. There is no use in trying to recreate something that has dissappeared forever. Just keep watching the original films !

Bad remakes are like yesterdays newpapers - they get forgotten. It is the quality which will last. I haven't seen the film so I can't comment on it but it doesn't affect the reputations of the originals - after all they survived The Wildcats Of St. Trinians and that was a Frank Launder film

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

My two teenage daughters have seen it and loved it they have also seen the original and don't seem to have any problem with the remake.

I am the one who has the problem,I love the original and haven't any intention of seeing the remake maybe I should take some lessons from them and put away my prejudices.

Most of the audience are too young to be familiar with the original series, so will not be making comparisons .....and it seems to be perfoming well at the box office...in UK, £12.5 million to date I read somewhere, so there might be an even more tasteless sequel to look forward to !

Given that there was little competition it was bound to do well.I am happy to say that i ignored the ctitical comments on this thread went and saw it and enjoyed it.Clearly if you are upset at the prospect of Belles of St Trinians being remase then dont see it.Otherwise go along without any preconceived notions.
