Hello all, answer's simple, watch it and form an opinion...this forum has a notoriously bad history for shredding remakes, I wonder why?...the answer is simple again, coz there all bl***y awful!, oh and good points Marky b and Steve, films have there own time and place, so please accountants.....LEAVE THEM ALONE! My oppinion on the new film is very simple.

I thaught it was quite a good thing though the comparisons between this one and the old one remind me of the comparison between a new Apple Mac computer and a Pc.

Could have been made really good if only for a few minor changes such as the mac having a right click button which to me is the theme tune difference, the origional worked better. Also the macs idea of a taskbar is not as good as the pc version just like i feel that a different flash harry or indeed just a different layout of his character such as origionally whistling to him and him emerging from the bushes as opposed to him arriving in a pimped up people carrier type car. Apart froim these though the film was rather good though of course Rupert Everett has nothing on Alaster Sim but maybe that was as was put to me everett is actually gay whereas sim was straight and you need a straight actor to play a drag roll successfully.

Not so sure about that; Christopher Biggins and Danny La Rue have made quite a career of it!

Whatever role he played! I can always watch him, class, pure class!

We've had some fantastic British actors in film but I'm not sure I'd personally put any above Ali........

Like it or not, many of our beloved films from the black & white age of British cinema aren't what the young people want to see these days. While we think they're missing out, they want to see contemporary stuff and remakes like this offer a 'way in' for younger people. I just saw St Trinian's with my daughter who was then happy to watch the original even though she had never bothered with it before. She still enjoyed the modern one better but that's to be expected, but it did open another branch of British films for her, and she was delighted to see Sid James pop up in the original who has become something of a favourite for her, I'm hoping an appreciation of the great Alistair Sim will follow.

These remakes/re-imagings or whatever do serve a purpose as far as I'm concerned as they help the younger viewer get in touch British film history which can only be a good thing. For what it's worth I found the film to be an entertaining jolly romp which, while far from being perfect, went a good way towards trying to encapsulate the feel of British films of yesteryear.

I've not seen the remake yet, and will probably wait til it appears on tv, but that suggets it must have made a profit at the box office.

It more than made its money back on the cinema run alone in the UK, which must be rare for a British film (cost £7m and made £12m). This lets Ealing finance less populist stuff as indicated in the captain's article above.

It was okay - not as good as the first three but better than the last two...

DW, I so agree with your last sentence. Rupert Everett wasn't at all bad, but who could compare with AS?

Parker and Thompson are also re-teaming behind the lens to movie "St Trinian's: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold" armed with a "little more than the first one's" $15 million budget and reteaming the writers from the first one, Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft. Thompson said he was confident Colin Firth and Rupert Everett will come back for the second outing and was also hoping Gemma Arterton, the actress whose profile keeps on rising, would also come back. It details the story of the school girls going on a treasure quest after discovering secret papers in the school library.
