Excellent film, saw it the other day. Had me captivated the whole way through. Anyone else seen it?

Yes, I must agree. Then again, as my favourite film is also Brief Encounter, I suspect we share the same taste in movies!!

As I mentioned in a previous thread, it was good to see the excellent Sylvia Syms in a smallish role as the Queen Mother. Overall, I felt the acting was of a high standard and the Venice Film Festival award was richly deserved.

Regards
Phil Turner

This was my favourite film of the year so far.
It made me laugh and cry. The script should win an award or a hundred it was really spot on.
I wonder how it is doing abroad? On IMDB it makes out not very well in the US.

Well, I wonder why that doesn't surprise me.

I thought the Queen was why a lot of Americans came over to England and didn't they love Diana? After my last posting it says that it is opening at more screens over there now so maybe it'll be a slow burner...

I wouldn't expect anything less from Helen Mirren.

Wink It's doing well in Southern California

The movie has been steadily building word of mouth for over a month now, going strong in two -then four- theaters in San Diego County. This week, it's been added to twice as many theaters as the previous week.

Frears rarely disappoints me, but equaly rarely excites me.
He's a decent director, who had an above avg. script, and at least one world class performer.
So far, no serious contenders, to best Helen Mirren for top honers.
As much as I love Rampling and Winslet. No one can challenge Mirren yet.
