Default The Lives of Others

This is a German film and won the 2007 Oscar for best Foreign Film. I would strongly recommend it as one of the best films of the year. It is simply brilliant, set in East Germany before the Wall came down. A great film with an excellent cast, extremely well acted. Don't miss it.

Wonderful. I'm giving nothing away when I say the final line is, "It's for me," and those plain words will bring a tear to your eye.

Interesting marketing of this film in the UK,they mention the Oscar but not the category and I believe that that trailer hasn't any dialogue.

I totally agree. This is a film of real quality and integrity, with a compelling story that's not trivialised to win box office appeal. It's a film that concentrates on the basics and gets them right: good story, intelligent script, fine acting, interesting themes and, most notably, a wonderful film debut from co-producer, writer and director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.

I can scarsely remember a modern film of 2hours 17mins pass so quickly, and I was pleased to see so many people in the cinema for a subtitled German film. Then again, quality usually finds an audience.

Regards
Phil Turner
