Wow, it's difficult for me to believe you all think the original was a classic! I saw it on a double-bill with 'Wakabout' 11 years ago and can't imagine why they'd remake it, even if it's cult has grown?! Always suspected Neil LaBute was a hack in artists clothing; if 'Nurse Betty' didn't sufficiently prove it, this should.

The remake suxed, was gay, and totally retarded :

Actually not released downunder yet, but don't get me started on remakes.

On the bright side of the bonfire maybe we'll get the original re-released on DVD Where's my double DVD pack ....

Clive Barker is also remaking his classic "Hellraiser", the question remains why?

Did anyone have good opinions about this remake? I didn't hate it, Cage was OK, etc., but 4 weeks after seeing it, I can barely remember it. Six weeks after seeing the original, I still remember that one.

    Bad and Memorable is terrible.

But Unmemorable seems like an insulting value as well.

I am a huge fan of Nic Cage but I haven't seen The Wicker Man as yet.

I prefer to wait until a film comes out on DVD to buy rather than pay over ther top prices at a cinema.

Even though I am a Nic fan and will add this film to my Nicolas Cage DVD collection I agree with most of you that it will not be nowhere near as good as the original.

I had high hopes for this film - I was really looking forward to seeing the wonderful Ellen Burstyn in the Summerisle role - but after reading the universally damning reviews, I didn't bother. Still, there is one reason I will still watch it on DVD - it was filmed on location on the beautiful Bowen Island off West Vancouver, from where my ancestors hail, where my mother grew up and where I was very fortunate to have lived for a short time.

name='Steve Crook']Nah, watch the new version and then watch the original to see how it should have been done

    Steve

This Saturday night ( March 14th) channel 9 here are showing both films in that

very order. It will be interesting to see just what a cock up they made of the new

version & then enjoy the original.

i just simply dont want to see nicolas cage making a hash of it . he's probably out of his depth in that film because there isnt a car chase or an explosion in it .

am i right in thinking his career is going down the tubes ? everything ive seen him advertising in posters just lately seems to be a straight to dvd kind of movie

I recently rented it from our local library .... Cage is awful and the film lacks any sense of menace or suspense (I am sure LukeAFB will think I am talking about the original). The only redeeming feature for me was the photography, which is very good. The film plods drearily through the motions and is so boring that I ended up falling asleep!

Oh but there is an incident with a car at the start of the film, that's all I'll say as I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Original Wicker Man: 10 out of 10

Nic Cage gave it his best shot, not a bad try, but the origional is and always will be the best, no matter how many times i watch the origional i still get goose bumps as the poor Edward Woodward is dragged to his burning date with The Wicker Man.
