Lee Evans has joined the cast of the upcoming Magic Roundabout movie. He will play a new character, the "plucky and courageous" Train. Evans joins Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Sir Ian McKellen, Bill Nighy, Jim Broadbent, Joanna Lumley and Tom Baker.

Lee Evans is currently appearing on stage in London's West End in Mel Brooks's The Producers. He has also appeared in a number of movies including Mouse Hunt, There's Something About Mary and Funny Bones.

"It's really exciting to be involved in this project," said Evans.

"The Magic Roundabout has become something of a national treasure. Now we can pass this on to the next generation to enjoy." he told BBCi.

The Magic Roundabout is released in February 2005.

OK, I'll reserve judgement, but why is my heart sinking when I read this. Why not leave the original alone (never mind, spurious rubbish like passing stuff on to the next generation to enjoy - what cobblers!) Make money out of remakes you mean, or try to, because it's easier than thinking up anything new.

It'll be interesting to see if the drug refernces remain or Zebedee is banned from getting trippy. clown

I expect somebody will go throught the script with a fine tooth comb searching out double entendres.

Well according to the IMDb they've renamed him as ZeBadDee and he's an evil wizard (voiced by Tom Baker)

Ian McKellen is voicing Zebedee according to that link Steve.

Can't argue with Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy and Ray Winstone either.

Oh yes, there's Zebedee and ZebBadDee - two separate characters.

Yes, the cast looks quite impressive. I like the idea of Joanna Lovely as Ermintrude.

Someone on a message board linked from that IMDb page suggests how current Hollywood might remake the story of Moses:

    (enter Moses packing serious heat)

Moses: Let my people go, you ass-monkeys!!! Time for some smoting....through gunfire!!!

(Moses unloads his M16 into the Egyptian temple. The room is full of blood)

Moses: Looks like you have one more 'red sea' to part, eh God?

    God: You damn right!

Ian Mckellen as ZebBadDee bouncing up from the bottom of the garden crying "Time For Bed Everybody" does inject a different perspective into the proceedings.

Why on earth change poor Zebedee? Here we go again with the changing of things that were fine in the first place! What are they going to do with Dylan (man.....) then? Put him in rehab? Maybe he'll find a new direction and release a concept album.

As good as the rest of the scene was, that opening statement kind of said it all. violent

Why can't they re-release 'Dougal and The Blue Cat'?
