A newspaper today reports that Dixon of Dock Green is making its come back on BBC Radio 4. The original TV series ended in 1976 after 21 years, when Jack Warner was 80! The remake is based on original scripts in a six part series.

Quote from today's Daily Express "David Calder is PC George Dixon, and the forthcoming Doctor Who and Cassanova star David Tennant as his sidekick, Andy Crawford!" (Funny, I thought Andy Crawford was in CID).

"In its heydey it drew in audiences of 14 million, but ratings dropped off in the late 60s when a more aggressive style of police drama became popular." (Yes I remember at the time we had Z Cars, the aggressive acceleration of those Ford Zephrs, the aggresive control room radio operator woman "BD to Z Victor 4, come in please").

So what next? It's obvious that there are no writers who can create something new, or rather, no producers who want something new!

So more remakes it is then, even on the radio.

How about a remake of Chamberlain's return from Germany to announce the war with Hitler, starring Harry Hill as the PM? Or even remade children's favourites, Eminem stars in Listen With Mother****er! Michael Barrymore fronts Two-Way Family Favourites, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue starring the BBC board of directors!

In Private Eye this week they have a nice comparison ...

Question from original version of 'Ask The Family' ...

Robert Robinson: This is one for the children of the family only. Which of these calculations gives the same answer:

    a. one half times one third

    b. one half plus one third

    c. one half minus one third

    d. one half divided by one third

Question from new version of 'Ask The Family' ...

Dick and Dom: What breeds of dog do you have to cross to get a Labradoodle?

Dumbing down? "No, not us" say the BBC.

And there was me thinking that as humanity progressed in time it increased in intelligence and sophistication. If I disconnect the TV from the aerial but still use a VCR and DVD do I still need a TV licence?

Officially, no. But the onus is on you to prove that you can't receive a TV signal.

It's a pity you can't just prove that there's sod all worth watching, that would be very easy indeed!
