Sacha Baron Cohen sends up the fashion world.
In The Sunday Telegraph, industry insider Simon Mills argued that "the truth is stranger than satire":
"The problem is that the fashion world is largely immune to parody mainly because it does a good job of constantly parodying itself.
"At the most extreme end of things, it is ruled by megalomaniacs with little knowledge of the world away from the catwalk and who treat outsiders with contempt.
"The designers are despotic control freaks, while the magazine journalists are freeloading, power-crazed nut-jobs with an overblown sense of their importance. And I speak from experience."

What, again? He did this one years ago in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It was funny for a while at the time because everyone was going crazy about fashion designers, brands and labels.name='Maurice']Premiere this week; general release 10th July

Ditto. I was dragged to see Borat and wasn't that thrilled with it. This one looks like more of the same, just done with a different character to help people behave like idiots.
I saw a video clip on the Internet of Cohen pulling a stunt on Eminem at the MTV Awards.

Anita Singh:
BRUNO, the outrageous Sacha Baron Cohen film that received an "18" rating, is to be edited and re-released with a "15" certificate.
To boost box office takings by tapping into the teenage market, Universal Pictures is releasing a version with the rudest scenes taken out.
It is the first time in Britain that two versions of a film have been in cinemas simultaneously. The edited film will be released on July 24.
The British Board of Film Classification initially ruled that the film was suitable for adults only. The "15" version is only one minute and 50 seconds shorter. It still contains numerous sex scenes and sexual references.
Three scenes have been edited but not removed: a montage of Bruno engaged in "exaggerated sexual activity" with his boyfriend; a scene in which he mimes sexual activity with a spirit during a visit to a medium; and one sex scene shot at a swingers' party.
In the movie, the British comedian Baron Cohen plays the camp Austrian fashion reporter Bruno.
The film is already a success, setting a British record for a Friday opening and topping the US box office.
David Kosse, the president of Universal, said:
"Due to the overwhelming demand by fans who are desperate to see the film, we're really pleased to be able to offer a '15' certificate version."
Unlike it would appear anyone else on this site i have seen this film.I went yesterday. At times i found it funny and of course cringe making at the same time. Not as consistently funny as Borat it does tend to pall occasionally. If you are broadminded go and see it if not watch a rerun of Mary Poppins.
I intend to go and see it, as I think SBC is a genius.
and his mum goes to the same hairdresser as mine.my mum who is 85 did ask me about wether she should go and see it.all i could say is that she might not appreciate some of the humour.
LOL. I saw it yesterday, it certainly won't be to everyone's taste, and it pushes a lot of boundaries. I enjoyed it a lot, and it made me laugh constantly.
IMDB say the film is 'USA'. So I guess it's American money... SBC is the only British thing about it!

So is everyone else. After a strong opening, it's been dropping like a stone, doing only 8 some million in the U.S. in its second week.
Is there anyone who's seen the film, who also saw Sasha do this character in Da Ali G Show?
Basically, has he added anything really new or is it just more of the same sort of thing?
I think the character worked better before the recession hit. When there were a lot of people around who thought things like clothes and particularly labels on clothes, were important. I would have thought that it'd be harder to do a character like that when people are trying to save, or at least husband, their money.
