I think the Harry Potter series has been great. Although I haven't seen them in the cinema, I think I've caught most of them on DVD. and really enjoyed them.

But my favourite memory of HP was driving past a bookstore one midnight (after seeing Whitesnake in concert if I recall correctly) when a new HP book was about to be launched and seeing all these kids dressed as witches and wizards, queueing with mums and dads until midnight when the books officially went on sale.

Hat's off to J.K.Rowling for giving kids such a great event to look foward to and to dress up for - as well as for getting them interested in books again.

In 3rd July (Friday) Daily Telegraph, Will Lawrence interviewed David Yates and Jim Broadbent:

"I think the cast are getting better and better," Yates says, "and Emma certainly seems much more confident this time.

"She really moved on in the last one, but now she's even more at ease. And Dan, having done EQUUS, he's just finding moments and beats that are really surprising and lovely."

Along with the brooding, emotional entanglements, THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE is also bristling with action, and the movie opens with a set piece that brings a major London landmark crashing down.

JK Rowling talks about the attack in her novel, but Yates is going to show it in all its menacing glory....

    Today's Telegraph:

    The immortal Harry

    by Nicolette Jones:

Not only has the series made more money than any other children's book ever published and turned a lot of children into readers, it has changed the way publishers and the media treat children's books.

It has put new words into the dictionaries, raised fortunes for charities, and introduced a childen's auther for the first time into the top rank of celebrity despite, or perhaps because of, her unwillingness to court it.
