Terrible idea. The original film is a classic imo. The special effects still hold up well, too.
American Werewolf in London remake
Dimension Films is developing a remake of "An American Werewolf in London," setting up the project with producers Sean and Bryan Furst.
The original 1981 pic was written and directed by John Landis and starred David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and Jenny Agutter. Pic, which won an Oscar for makeup, centers on a college student going on a rampage after surviving an attack by a werewolf on a Yorkshire moor.
The Furst brothers produced "Daybreakers," a pic set in a world conquered by vampires and to be released in January.
Dimension has not yet attached a scribe or helmer to the "Werewolf" remake

Another nights work in Londons West End..???
AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON…Director John Landis…
Central Casting must have sent 200-300 people down to Piccadilly for a night shoot on this production.
None of us knew anything about the scenes we were going to be involved in so we just hung around coffee bars (Or other bars) chatting and having a night out in The West End.
About 1 o'clock in the morning the production team gathered us all together and told us the scenes they were about to do. (You ain’t gonna believe this).
A WEREWOLF is going to be running out of a cinema in Piccadilly Circus straight across Eros causing cars to crash and have people falling out of bus windows.
(I’m thinking this will do the tourist trade the world of good)
On a cue from the 1st A.D. the real police clear the roads of all late night Joe Public.
The Central Casting crowd are all given places to stand and out of the woodwork comes our buses and cars and stunt people. We’ve got permission to hold up traffic for half an hour and John Landis had multi camera crews covering every angle.
It was over as quickly as it began and as soon as the camera’s stopped rolling the wrecking crews were in there clearing the wrecked cars and sweeping the streets clean again. An hour later it was like we’d never been.
(See the film just to see this sequence)
Well done, John Landis…
Aitch,
Oh no! not another cover version!! lets learn our lessen with Cages Wickerman.
TERRIBLE.
when is this lazy, greedy, lack of inspiration and creativity going to end???????

Not whilst we're in a recession, despite the awful remakes of Alfie, Get Carter, Ladykillers etc, it seems financiers would rather back a film with a recognised title than fund a new werewolf movie.
I bet they'll use CGI too.![]()

well i wish they'd just make the entire film in CGI and get it over and done with and straight onto dvd to be sold exclusively in tesco!
i'm watching less and less new films as time goes by-especially any films made in the U.S. thanks to this trend.

I think that pretty well describes how the dreadful sequel from about 10 years ago went!
"American Werewolf in Paris" was absolutely dire, and is mostly forgotten but it was a much hyped sequel at the time riding on the back of the original movie, utter rubbish though, as Im sure the latest remake will prove to be.
Music and films have both gone the same way....down,or is it me getting old and stuck in the past?![]()

i agree!! it seemed to rely upon the line ''i love americans!'' for humour and resembled an Xbox game more than a film! complete crap!

Ultimately it's up to us. We vote on what kind of films get made with our wallets.
Unfortunately there are A LOT of stupid people out there.

yup!-we're outnumbered at least 100 to 1,so CGI & remakes it is then!
I have never understood the enormous appeal of the original: it was just a reasonably effective horror film with some nice location filming and some exceptionally ferocious brutality, and the presence of Jenny Agutter lifting it (not very far) from the B picture category. It had one fine chase sequence: the stockbroker in the subway. That's it.
It also had David Naughton, who was popular at the time and annoying.
A remake will no doubt be much worse. Unfortunately the title alone will guarantee a large gross over a couple of weekends and plenty of DVD sales.

i'd go along with that! it's an enjoyable film which scared the life out of me as a kid and the appeal for me now is the english rural locations-there's not been many british horrors for the last 30 years! david naughton isn't the greatest actor agreed! i think the status of the film was raised with the news that it inspired michael jackson to make the 'thriller' video in that vein!

Better not let Steve Crook hear you refer to the mainly Welsh locations as being England. Most of the rural "English" locations were in fact shot near the Black Mountains in Wales including the village with the Slaughtered Lamb pub etc. The rest is of course London.

It's the black humour that lifts it above your average horror. I find it just as enjoyable now as when it was first released - and the soundtrack perfectly knits in.

I thought the original was very good, and it is unfortunate that CGI is replacing real humans. I'm surprised some film companies have not declared bankruptcy yet, just so they can get bailout money
