The new movie based on The Wicker Man,has begun production.

Here is a link to a bit of news on it

Lothian sets the scene for Wicker sequel - Edinburgh Evening News

Here is a link to a fan site, which will come in handy for any future updated info on the films progress.

The Wicker Tree Fansite - Introduction

The Bad News: Sir Christopher Lee has absolutely no part of this movie in anyway, shape or form at present. He has not been asked and has not read any script.Sir Christopher has absolutely NO interest in appearing in the movie in a cameo role, just for the sake of it.

The script is in it's early days at present, and there may be a chance they may write in a part for Sir Christopher.

I obtained this information from the christopherleeweb forum.

Seems odd that they would want to do it without Lee, but this production has had such a protracted history I'll believe it when I see it!

Well I did think it was a bit odd when they said he was going to be in it, he certainly was against that terrible remake they made and we know now he predicted rightly (in fact anyone with half a brain realised at the time that it would be a flop).

There is a cowboy in this version???????

    Say no more.

Thankfully, the title has been changed.Juan,Sir Christophers son in law, said there is still 5 weeks to go until the script etc is finalised.so maybe they may write a part for him.whether Sir Christopher will accept though,is in the lap of the gods.

Somehow, everything about the production seems to be doomed, sadly. Sir Christopher, apart from Hardy and Snell, I think, was the only constant from the beginning. See him more or less kicked out of it does not make me more optimistic.

My fave title was The Riding of the Laddie, btw ...

    Absolutely!

However, do we know that Lee has been dropped? Is it not likely that as the budget was slashed he may have preferred to do something else? He's not short of offers...

More info on the current state of The Wicker Tree

    The bits concerning Lee:

After coaxing British Lion chairman and CEO Peter Snell out of retirement to become his producer, Hardy and Snell joined forces with Peter Watson-Wood and his partner, Alastair Gourlay, to bring The Wicker Tree to the screen for a tight $3 million budget. Last year, Hardy shot some exteriors in Texas and had preliminary talks with Christopher Lee and Joan Collins. Then Lee developed back problems when he tripped over a cable on a movie set in Mexico, leaving him unable to tackle the physically demanding role of Lachlan, and Joan Collins made other plans for this summer.

So Hardy chose Scottish actor Graham McTavish (Rambo) who says, "I feel in some ways, a great responsibility to Christopher Lee, to Robin and to the legacy of The Wicker Man. As someone who was inspired by that film, it's tremendously exciting and challenging to fill the shoes of Christopher Lee - and I only hope I can do it. For an actor, Lachlan is a role you seize with both hands."

Christopher Lee fans should note, however, that he is planning to appear in The Wicker Tree in a pivotal and instantly recognizable supporting role. And Jacqueline Leonard is Lachlan's inscrutable wife Delia.

Presumably then Lee will be making an appearance as Lord Summerisle?

Looks... intriguing. Not sure about Clive Russell with his kilt open, you might have to have a strong stomach for that

Yuk ! What a waste of film. The original was so good - it does not need a rubbish sequel.

It does seem to be just a lazy rejigging of the original premise. The early reviews don't sound positive either.

The 'band' should have been The Jonas Brothers, and sacrifice them.

This obviously means (with all these remakes) that they are short of fresh ideas and surely an opportunity
for you Faginsgirl to push your own writings ?
