Very disappointingly both Amazon and Play are now quoting the publication date as 14 June 2010. Is this a cause for concern? Is it another case of a publisher checking the market before finally deciding whether to go ahead? I would be very disappointed if it was withdrawn as this is a film I have been hoping for years would get a proper release.

This film was originally scheduled for an earlier release (January I think). It is based on the novel by Nevil Shute and while it is a bit cosy it also has a good story about the sinking of a submarine in the English channel. I seem to remember that Shute himself somewhat dismissed it as one of his lighter stories but, to my mind, it is good story and was well filmed by Ken Annakin. Michael Denison stars and, as has been discussed on another thread, he is seen these days as a bit too old fashioned in his acting. Perhaps these are the reasons why it has taken so long for it to be considered for a DVD release (I'm pretty sure it never found its way on to VHS) but it is an excellent war film and one that should have been published long ago. It is certainly miles ahead of many WW2 films that are already on DVD. For many years it was shown regularly on TV but not, I think, in recent years. I sincerely hope its release is not put back again.

And what about a commercial release for another Michael Denison film - The Franchise Affair. This also is long overdue on DVD.

Aye, I taped if from CH4. It's a simple tale that I would have enjoyed more if it had focused more on coastal command and less on Dennison's love life.

Amazon are now quoting a release date of 12 July. This is the second delay - let's hope it is the last and the 12 July is now fixed.

Just watched this one and really enjoyed it. I would have preferred more of the war side of it but the romance wasn't too bad. Good performance from Denison I thought.
