BBC 1976 Hunchback of Notre Dame

The 1976 BBC Hunchback of Notre Dame/Notre Dame de Paris, starring Kenneth Haigh, Warren Clarke, Michelle Newell, David Rintoul and Christopher Gable, is on DVD in the Netherlands. It has removable Dutch subtitles. Copies can be found on eBay. It's an excellent production, which I reviewed here.

Thanks silverwhistle. I remember that series and it was indeed excellent. Again we have to ask the question ... why is it available in The Netherlands but not in the UK?

Haven't a clue, Batman! It's very odd that some BBC material gets issued abroad but not here!



I recall seeing this on TV when I was 11 – probably the first – and most faithful – version I saw of what became one of my all-time favourite novels. (I read it first at 16.) I'm keen to track down the 1966 BBC version, if it survives. I've seen most other extant adaptations, although the Disney almost gave me a nervous breakdown.
