13 episodes?

According to BBC America's DVDs in the Works, the 1960s Wilmer and Stock Sherlock Holmes is getting dusted off for a full release in the autumn. So miracles can and do happen. I wonder if it will follow on region 2? And also whether they've located the missing bit of the incomplete episode.

I hope so James. It only has the one sentence about it at the moment admitting they've missed Conan Doyle's 150th anniversary.
Thanks!
I got the Cushing set and am looking forward to this one.

Wonderful news. Many Thanks, didi. It is very sad though that the series is not entirely 'intact'. From LostShows:
Misssing or incomplete episodes for programme SHERLOCK HOLMES.
20.03.65 The Abbey Grange (aired three days before I was born)
One or more sequences don't exist, but the complete programme is lost.
17.04.65 The Bruce Partington-Plans
Sound only exists - there is no picture.
Out of an original total of 13 episodes, one episode is missing and a further episode is incomplete.
Don't worry, folks, we will get to see them as well, in 'TV Heaven'. You can be assured of that.
Eleven complete episodes out of thirteen is still pretty good, and if the incomplete episode doesn't have the ending, you can always look up the story to find out how Holmes solves it.
The first reel of Bruce Partington survives, hopefully they will include this and continue with audio but no picture, perhaps using stills....but I doubt it somehow. Great news of a release at long last though but why yet again are we being denied this in R.2? I despair of the amount of classic BBC material we are being denied![]()
I do hope this comes about! Douglas Wilmer was the first Holmes I ever saw and it would be fantastic to get more than the two (edited) episodes the BBC released on VHS many years ago.
Even just the 11 would be great!

Two episodes of the Douglas Wilmer series in the BBC archives are incomplete - "The Abbey Grange" is missing the first reel of two, "The Bruce-Partington Plans" is missing the second reel of two. Technically "The Speckled Band" is incomplete, in that it was first transmitted in "Detective" and all episodes of that series (its first series) had an introduction by Rupert Davies (as Maigret) - the version that exists of "Speckled Band" has the "Sherlock Holmes" series titles and is minus the intro.
I assumed they were all missing, so this is great news.

Rather good with the excellent Maurice Denham![]()
This is indeed capital news, Watson!
I wonder, though, why no R2 release? Also, thankfully Douglas Wilmer is still with us - I read his interesting autobiography quite recently - and it would have been good if he could have provided an introduction or two to the episodes.

I presumed that douglas wilmer had died years ago! I always thought that he would have made a good 'count dracula'!

He was on a documentary a few years ago about Holmes (it was about the Holmes fanatic that killed himself and Wilmer was an acquaintance). He looked in very robust good health.
Douglas is a honorary member of The Sherlock Holmes Society of London and quite often attends their dinners.
