The Avengers Series 4

With the release on Monday of Series 4 ( the first Diana Rigg season ) of The Avengers just curious as to how many, if any, members will be upgrading to this new set ?

I've spent way too much on DVDs and BRs recently, I think I'll have to wait for a considerable price drop. The filmed Avengers series are my favourites, I thought I'd become a completist and bought the first two box sets. In all honesty watching them was quite a chore, I know for some the video episodes are the best but I couldn't engage with them and most episodes remain unwatched. I sold my Contender editions quite a while a go in the hope of Blu Ray Avengers but there is no confirmation this will happen. What Network did with The Prisoner on Blu Ray was breathtaking......having said all that I'll probably cave in and buy the thing next week!

Although the wealth of extras on this set is quite breathtaking, I was thinking of holding off for a bluray release, but it's all gone quiet on that front. Of course, as soon as I buy the set, a bluray edition will be announced . . .

It appears that the Optimum curse of the boxsets strikes again. I believe there is a fault on at least one of the discs that causes "The Gravediggers" to go out of sync.

I've just checked my copy and as Gerald says above, I can also confirm a picture freeze at approx 43mins and from then on, the picture/audio at the climax of The Gravediggers episode is significantly out of synchronization. It's such a pity as the picture quality is superb ... nevertheless if the audio doesn't match, it is distracting and does spoil the climax.

I've just emailed Amazon asking if they would investigate this fault with the digital transfer.

Cheers for that information too Mrs Peel and Gerald. I find it really annoying when that happens. It's obviously a fault on the entire batch. What a pity.

Just run this episode through and sadly I can confirm the synch problem mentioned by Mrs P above

It looks like the entire release has this fault. Optimum have not covered themselves in glory on the quality control side of things for these sets. Hopefully, they will provide free replacements as they did for set 1.

Bought my set the other week and was just watching the Gravediggers episode last night, when I came across the sync problem. I wondered whether it was my disc. At least I don't have to waste my time sending it back to Amazon now I know it's a problem with the entire batch.

If it's like last time, Optimum will eventually provide an address to which you can send the faulty disc (you pay the postage!) and they will send you back a replacement.

Also, some people are reporting that they're unable to stop the disc during playback and have to press 'Menu' instead.
