Default Alec Guinness/John Mills box sets

Anyone else bought these sets just released in the UK by Optimum? Have you tried the "Kind Hearts and Coronets" disc? Well I have and it actually plays "The Ladykillers" which is not even listed as part of the set!!!! Also, the picture quality of "Baby and the battleship" in the JM set is atrocious - grainy and with colour flashing as if there was a "loose" connection somewhere.

These sets are not cheap - why can't Optimum get their act together? After the cock ups on the George Formby box set I would have expected them to try harder (for those who can't remember - the sound was totally out of sync on one film, "Let george do it" had no sound for the final 5 minutes and "Come on George" was missing the last ten minutes completely!)

So presumably I have to waste more time trying to contact Optimum - or return them to HMV to try and get a refund. I wonder whether "Alastair Sim" will get through unscathed?

On a more positive note I must praise the recent box sets from ITV dvd and the continuing issues from Odeon. These are quality products and come highly recommended.

This is what happens when media companies like OPTIMUM employ today's 'yoof' who graduate from our university film and media studies degree courses !
They don't know anything about pre-Trainspotting UK films, and couldn't care less.....

If more knowlegeable, mature staff were employed such 'errors' would be much less likely to happen....

I wouldn't generalize on the youth of today.
My son got an honours degree on film studies. His favourite films include DOUBLE INDEMNITY, BICYCLE THIEVES, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, THE OFFENCE and MARTY - all from long before TRAINSPOTTING.
It is easy to lay the problems you encounter with quality on something like this but it doesn't get it fixed. You should return any faulty goods to the place from where you bought them and explain the reasons and they - if they know their business - will return them to the manufacturer who will - if he / she has any sense - review the quality processes they have in place and fix the problem at source. If they don't then they eventually go out of business because they get such a poor brand image.
PS this doesn't apply to Asda who don't train their staff properly, Novatech who tell you "tough luck" and suggest you write to the manufacturer - and don't even get me started on how useless Vodafone is!!!

The reason why these companies do not end up with employees knowledgeable of their product is because they do not look for them.

One of my friends has graduated from Film School with a BA (Hopes to do his MA in Poland!!!). He knows more about foreign language movies then I know about British movies. With English language movies I trump him admittedly... but then I'm twice his age.

Curry's and PC World are my favourites on the poor service and training of staff front... as far as I am concerned... both companies deserve to go bust (yes, I know they are part of the same group and don't sell DVDs... I just have a bee in my bonnet).

This is a true story. I was in PC WOrld one night and a little old man (actually like Peter Sellers in "Smallest Show On Earth" so you can picture it) said to one of the assistants "I need a (item forgotten)". The assistant looked and pointed saying "You get that up there" - and the old man said, "but they sent me down here" and the reply was "well go and tell them they're wrong".
So yes PC World is probably Britain's worst company after the incompetents at Vodafone!!!

Or aren't willing to pay for them - not even in a shop manager that the minions can go to and ask questions
