Seems Sony are releasing a batch of films on DVD-R in the States on the 21st September and this company does seem to ship to the UK. Bit expensive though...

They could possibly be an exclusive. I have read CCVideo and Deep Discount are listing them and both companies are owned by the same firm.

They seem to be cheaper at Deep Discount btw and they do ship internationally.

At least one of these films (The Executioner) has been released by Sony already in Spain.

Hey Grant, thanks for posting the links.

When people are pointing out that some of the titles in the collection have been released already, they are not having a go. Because these are DVD-Rs, some people are just surprised that the American market are being offered an expensive option of a format that may not promise to be as durable as a replicated copy when fully manufactured discs are available to buy at much cheaper costs in other markets such as Spain and here in the UK. Not many people know about the official Sony releases so they are perhaps just pointing it out as it is appropriate to the topic and helps other forum members wishing to buy these titles, just as you helped forum members by letting us know about the new releases.

    Thanks for the pointer James.

As to the DVD vs DVD-R debate, the DVD'R's are blue/purple on the underside just like home DVD-R recordings. I have a few of the Warner Archive releases for instance. It has been suggested that their 'shelf life' may not be as long as 'pressed' DVD's.

Warner have stated that they will last as long as normal discs and it has inspired some debate. As this method of distribution is still in its infancy, time will tell I suppose.

' Otley' is being released by Columbia/Sony in November this title is not available in the shops and is only issued in the states as a DVD-R made by Columbia/Sony .......you can order through Deepdiscount.com the discount makes up for the $5.99 postage you have to pay.

I haven't ordered from them for a few years (due to 2 orders going missing). They shipped via the cheapest (ie, slowest) method to outside the US, not sure if that is still the case. I remember waiting several weeks for my one and only successful order to arrive!
