Not normally my sort of release but if it does feature the great Bobby Darin then I may well have to reconsider.

Yes, very interesting indeed. Seeing a mention of Beryl Reid, I'm hoping it will also feature Adam Faith & The John Barry Seven, who appeared on the same episode as her in 1960. However, so many shows to choose from - there won't be room for everything, I'm sure, though I note this is "Volume One".

The price is reasonable enough. I wonder if they have the one where "The Rolling Stones" refused to go on the

turntable at the end of the show?

This is one I'll definitely be getting too - if only for the classic Norman Wisdom / Bruce Forsyth episode from 1961 which was last repeated 23 years ago: Bruce & Norman

I got my copy yesterday and i've found an odd fault on it. not checked it all but on the episode from 1964 as Freddy and the dreamers closes part one there is a slight pause then its onto beat the clock, however if you move back through the dvd you then see the adverts and can access them! the same thing happens after beat the clock as well. Does anyone else have this happen or is it just me?

In 1958 Buddy Holly appeared on the show, Bob Hope was top of the bill.

October 1963 The Beatles, and if my memory serves me right didn't the show open with the stage in darkness, a Beatles song with 4 silhouettes in the darkness playing guitars and drums, the place went wild until the lights went up and it was Bruce Forsythe and others playing broomsticks or something like that.

Well the review itself says "These editions include Beryl Reid, Adam Faith playing with the John Barry Seven, Bobby Darin, Cleo Laine, Pink & Perky, Sarah Vaughan, Freddie and the Dreamers, Mario Lanza, Larry Grayson, Jim Dale, Paul Anka, Rod Hull and Emu, Ted Rogers, Sacha Distel, Cliff Richard, Bob Monkhouse, Clodagh Rodgers and many more." so it looks like you're in luck!

And doesn't that list show how varied general family entertainment had to be in those days, trying to please everybody at once!

I've got to say I saw this clip on hyoutube a few months ago, and I don't know if I could take any more Tarbuck; really weak material, regardless of the year ...

Yes, got my copy today and it's very enjoyable - not just the Adam Faith parts!

I have to say that the picture quality of some of the episodes is not brilliant, in particular the one previously mentioned that includes a performance by Freddie & The Dreamers (plus a few old adverts), but I guess old TV is never going to look as good as old film.

I was intrigued by the appearance of a music hall star in this episode - Billy Russell. I admit I'd never heard of him before, but looking him up on IMDb.com I *think* he is probably also the actor of the same name - in other words he is Billy Russell (I) and (II). It's only the uncredited appearance as Adolf Hitler in Night Train to Munich which could be a dubious one. I must try and catch this again to see if I can spot a similarity.

Never found Tarbuck in the least funny.
A pumped up ass of a man.
He should stick to boring the arses off his celebrity golfing buddies.
It's the only kind of club he'll be performing at with a bit of luck!

Yes, I find his success a bit surprising too. I think coming from Liverpool and having the Beatles haircut probably helped at the beginning, but he somehow managed to sustain a career based on very traditional comic patter of the kind normally associated with - at best - warm-up men. Still, good luck to him, I suppose; he's managed nearly 50 years in the biz and we're still talking about him.

    His daughter Lisa is funny.

Thanks cassidy, I hadn't heard about that, quite a temporary let-down for all the teenagers in the audience.

    Agree on Lisa Tarbuck.
Very likeable and no baggage, despite having a famous father.
    Top lady!
